Jun-05-03  Shadout Mapes: 14.b8=Q? Was Fischer trying to be a wiseguy?
Jun-05-03  Bears092: I'm guessing incorrect score.
Jun-05-03  darnold: Maybe he REALLY didn't want the black queen on the long diagonal (as it turns out, if it had been his attack wouldn't have worked...)
Jun-05-03  Ghengis Pawn II: Ah, the good old Evans Gambit Panzer-Patzer defence. I don't care what anyone says, I'm terrified of replying with e5! Against Fischer, I would play a6 for the win!
Mar-15-05  Kingsandsquares: What a name, Panzer.
Mar-16-05  JohnTal: From my Fischer chess book, move 14 is incorrect. The actual move was 14 ba8Q ... Qa8 with the rest of the game correct from move 15 to the finish.

If Bobby had actually blundered with b8Q, ... Rb8 followed by ...O-O leaves Black with a very playable game.

Engaging Bobby with aggressive play within the first 15 moves of a game with an uncastled Black king is not a good idea - especially facing the Evans Gambit in a simul. Not that I could ever beat the Great One, but I would try to keep a solid, well protected position for at least 40-50 moves without Q's with some endgame chances. I would have no shame drawing with Bobby Fischer.

A game where the Panzers skipped the battle. 10 ... Bd7 is much better followed by developing the Kt from g8 and then o-o solidifies Black's position.

Build a solid foundation then attack.

Nov-16-14  Ke2: probably due to descriptive notation ambiguity. often promotion is just notated as "(Q)", even if there are multiple ways to promote.
Dec-01-14  TheFocus: From a simul in Chicago, Illinois on March 23, 1964.

Fischer scored +49=4-1.
