GrahamClayton: The Rice Gambit bites the dust again!
Dec-17-09  ounos: Ah, he should have left Janowski finish it: 21. ...Nh1+ 22. Kg1 Rd1+ 23. Bf1 Rxf1+ 24. Kxf1 Ng3+ 25. Kf2 Re2+ 26. Kg1 Re1+ 27. K(f|h)2 R(f|h)1#
Oct-24-14  ljfyffe: In January of 1903, D. Janowski, in his column of
the French weekly "Le Monde Illustre",informed
his readers that professor Isaac Rice from New York, the well known chess sponser, offered 1,000 francs (worth 10,000 USD) to organise an international correspondence tournament on the "Rice Gambit", whose inventor he was. The start list was closed with nine entries, including the "Cercle de Bruxelles". The moves of the eight games were displayed with diagrams, on boards on the wall of the club.

I'd bet Janowski announced the mate. Anyone have access to a contemporary source?
