Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-01-04  Knight13: I don't get why Strauss didn't take pawn on 31...cxd6. Instead played 31...Re5?!
Aug-01-04  maoam: <Knight13>

After 31...cxd6?? the Black king is trapped and there follows mate in two: 32. Rg8+ (or Rh8+) Rf8 33.Rxf8#.

Jan-12-06  itz2000: beautiful play by white.
Aug-16-06  alekxandros: what if instead of 31...Re5, black plays Rd5? what would white's reply be? i'm thinking 32. c4, but it looks like a better fighting chance for black than 31...Re5
Aug-16-06  alekxandros: looking at it even more, i don't understand why white didn't just play, 32. Rxc7+. at this point is looks like the game is over. i could be missing something though. looks as if it's a losing position for black in any case, but what would have been a better response for black on move #31?
Oct-22-18  jabinjikanza: Excellent game steinitz.
