Kibitzer's Corner
Dec-10-13  Karpova: Tartakower: <Mit dieser sozusagen aus einem strategischen Guss gespielten Partie hat sich Dr. Tarrasch als ein grosser Methodiker wie in seiner Glanzzeit erwiesen.> (With this, all of a strategic piece, played game, Dr. Tarrasch proved himself to be as great a methodologist as during his heyday.)

This game is annotated by Dr. Tartakower on pp. 252-253 of the October 1923 'Neue Wiener Schachzeitung'

Jun-02-20  kenilworthian: Thanks, Karpova, for the reference! Here is the link: http://anno.onb.ac.at/cgi-content/a...
Jun-02-20  kenilworthian: Yates's problems all began with 8...Nb8, which blindly follows his favorite pattern of repositioning the Knight. But with the center locked, White's dark square weaknesses don't show as much. Better was the modern 8....Ne7. But best of all was 8...Nd4! For example: 9.Nxd4 exd4 10.Bxd4 (10.Qxd4!? Ng4! 11.Qd2 Nxe3 12.Qxe3 f5! gives Black compensation but is complex) 10...Nxe4! 11.Nxe4 (11.Bxg7 Re8!) 11...Qh4! 12.g4 Re8 13.Bg2 Bf5! and Black has at least equality and is making White sweat with his King in the middle of the board.
