Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-20-04  Deji: Why doesn't white use his bishop to pin black's knight to the king on move 8?

offramp: There are a number of reasons. The main one is that he has already moved that bishop, and he doesn't want to move a piece twice in the opening. Another is that after 8.♗b5 black might play ...a6. After that white could either retreat the bishop or play BxN. If he plays BxN then black has 2 bishops against 2 knights, and after some pawns are exhanged that will be a definite advantage.
Feb-21-24  Stolzenberg: Perhaps White should have preferred 11. e5 Qe7 12. Qd2 in order to start an attack at the kingside with g2-g4-g5.
Feb-21-24  Stolzenberg: This game could be considered as the debut of the French, McCutcheon (C12) although with transposition.

1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. Bg5 Bb4 5. Bd3 and one has reached the position of this game after <5. Bg5>.
