Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-08-06  Far1ey: Nice, very pretty pawn push.
Jul-08-06  khense: Against Steinitz, black couldn't afford 3...h6. After 6...d3 he's road kill.

Phony Benoni: In my younger days, there was a fellow who played 3...h6 to avoid the Fried Liver Attack beginning with 3...Nf6 4.Ng5. I dubbed it the "Chicken Liver".
Jul-08-06  dakgootje: I actually like playing the black side of the 2-knights defence, which indeed could end up with a fried liver attack. Though as black you have to know a little about the opening that you dont play into too deadly variations like friend liver or something like the perreux variation
Jul-08-06  kevin86: Steinitz told Holstein to mooooooove over and Holstein complied.
Jul-08-06  Boomie: He certainly milked this position dry.

tamar: Holstein should have kicked the bucket after 16 d7!
Jul-08-06  RookFile: These were in Steinitz's younger and livelier days, when he was dubbed 'The Austrian Morphy'.
Jan-30-09  WhiteRook48: nice sacrifical game

  MissScarlett: As pointed out by Harding's <Steinitz in London>, p.94, the original <Field> source of September 12th 1863, identifed the opponent as <Mr. Holstein, of Philadelphia.> Reichhelm's <Chess in Philadelphia>mentions a <J Holstein> from a Philadelphia club tournament of 1862.

Harding: <White mates in two moves. <Bachmann> and <Neishtadt> follow <The Era> in giving as played 16. d7+ Bxd7 17. Qf8 mate (1-0).>

But the <Era> of September 20th has <16...Q takes P.>
