Aug-22-22  jerseybob: The choice of opening proves it's Ujtelky! When the Modern is played well it's a thing of beauty, but not everyone has the feel for it.
Aug-23-22  Rip2632: Ujtelky liked fianchettoed bishops. His knights reposition from the edge into the center and then a couple surprising sacrifices. 27.Qd4? wasn't helpful.
Aug-23-22  jerseybob: <Rip2632: ....27.Qd4? wasn't helpful.> I'm trying to figure out what was better; white's game is pretty rotten. White's opening formation with Be3 as a big pawn looks superficially strong, but it's actually weak, as Bobby Fischer found out in game 3 of his 1970 match vs Petrosian, when he had to struggle for a draw. White's f4 may be strong against the Pirc, but this is not a Pirc.

perfidious: <jerseybob>, Fischer mishandled the opening and allowed his great opponent to get the better of it.
