 | | Sneaky: I took so long posting my message everything has changed. White really can't win this? (scratches head) |
Jan-28-06 | | kafa: Thats not draw!!! See again and you will find the mate in four:) |
Jan-28-06 | | LoFarkas: As I see it with my patzer eyes: white needs one of the pawns to queen. He can't have his knight support the queening of ph5 or pa6, cos then it can't get back in time to stop pf4. If, on the other hand, he moves his king over to support ph5, black can take pa6 and then he's free to exchange his B for the remaining p; draw. Is that remotely close to correct? |
Jan-28-06 | | Jakobicek: yes i think u right farkas |
Jan-28-06
 | | Sneaky: And now I'm starting to wonder: was there ever a win? |
Jan-28-06 | | nizzechess: Leave the a-pawn, take blacks remaning pawn then use knight to block black bishop from taking the advancing h-pawn. :) |
Jan-28-06 | | kolobok: now knight is trapped it cant move anywhere clear draw |
Jan-28-06 | | Hoosier Daddy: White's king is tied to defending the a-pawn, his knight to blockading Black's f-pawn. There's no way to make progress. |
Jan-28-06 | | Cheesemaster: <nizzechess> Thats what i tried to say |
Jan-28-06 | | chessy636: some how i do not like a6. |

Jan-28-06 | | WMD: Van Wely is all wet. |
Jan-28-06 | | cuendillar: <Leave the a-pawn, take blacks remaning pawn then use knight to block black bishop from taking the advancing h-pawn. :)> Problem with this is that white has a rook pawn. As long as black gets his king over, it's a trivial draw after a minor piece exchange too. Trivial now meaning it's virtually impossible to lose for a 900+ |
Jan-28-06 | | Fan of Leko: Only winner gata kamsky today |
Jan-28-06 | | LoFarkas: The only question is how crafty could put out the line 48. ... g5 49. fxg5 f4 50. g6 f3 51. g7 f2 (eval 1.71; depth 17 ply; 150M nodes) ,missing the fact that 50. Nxf4 wins for white after 49 ... f4, which would be a blunder (as pointed out by saruman, I just ran Chessmaster and it confirmed his view) |

 | | lostemperor: (corrected repost ) Got back from Wijk aan Zee. In the comentaryroom a long friend of mine (with initials G.M. but only an amateur:) has suggested 33. a5 as winning, what was awarded the suggestion prize, a glass chessset. GM Sosonko who did the comentary couldn't find no save for black after 33. a5 (I checked it with my friend and neither did we, just try it:). Now its also confirmed at the homepage to be a correct suggestion and also 33 Ke1 wins |
