Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-06-06  Albertan: WGM/IM Jennifer Shahade usually plays the Grunfeld Defense against the Queen's Gambit. Here she plays the King's Indian Defense.
Aug-06-06  Albertan: The main line (which Shahade did not play) on move four starts with 4...O-O and continues: 5.Nf3 d6 6.O-O Nbd7 7.Nc3 e5 8.e4 c6 9.h3 Qb6.
Aug-06-06  Albertan: The move 7.dxc5 is a rarely played continuation. Usually White plays 7.Nf3 and play continues 7...O-O 8.O-O d6 9.Nc3 Nc6 10.d5 Na5.
Aug-06-06  Albertan: The move 6.a3 appears to be a theoretical novelty for the position. Up until this game White had either played 6.Nc3, 6.Nf3 or 6.Nh3.
Aug-06-06  Albertan: Another idea for White on move 7 is to play 7.Nf3 and play might continue:

7...O-O 8.Nc3 b6 9.O-O Bb7 10.Be3 Rc8 11.Bd4 Ne6 12.Bxf6 Bxf6 =

Aug-06-06  Albertan: Another idea on move 8 for Black is to play 8...Qb6 and play might continue: 9.Nh3 d5 10.Be3 Qa6 11.cxd5 Bxh3 12.Bxh3 Qc4 13.Rc2 Qxd5 14.Qxd5 Nxd5 =
Aug-06-06  Albertan: Shahade possibly considered playing the move ...Nxd5 on move 11. If she had play could have taken this course:

11...Nxd5 12.Qxd5 Be6 13.Qd2 Bxa2 14.Qxa2 Rc8 and Black has compensation for the pawn.

Aug-06-06  Albertan: The move 15...Rc8 has to be considered a good alternative to 15...Nb5. If Shahade had played 15...Rc8 then play might have continued: 16.Bb2 Nc4 17.Bh3 Nxb2 18.Qxb2 Nd7 19.f4 Be4 20.Rxe4 dxe4 21.Qd2 e3 22.Qd1 Nxe5!? 23.Qxd8 Rc1+ 24.Qd1 Nd3+ 25.Ke2 Rxd1 26.Kxd1 Nf2+
Aug-06-06  Albertan: The move 16.exf6? was a mistake.Better was 16.Bb2 and play might have continued: 16... Nd7 17.f4 Nb6 18.a4 Bxb1 19.axb5 Bf5
Aug-06-06  Albertan: Another idea on move 19 was to play 19..d4 then if 20.g4 d3 21.Bf4 Qd4 22.Qd2 Qc4 23.Kf2 Rad8 24.Ng3 Bg3
Aug-07-06  Albertan: Shahade missed playing 25...Bxh3!! 26.Nxh3 Qd3 27.Nf2 Rc1 28.Nxd3 Rxd1+ 29.Kf2 Rxh1 where she would be up a full rook and after 30.Nc3 Rc1 31.Ne4 d1 (Q) 32.Nxc1 Rxe4 33.fxe4 Qxc1 she would be up a queen.
