Mar-25-06  cade: Congratulations Xu! New World Champ!
Mar-25-06  percyblakeney: 55. ... Rxc1 would actually have worked too after 56. b7 Rcb1 57. Rb6 Ke4.
Mar-25-06  notsodeepthought: Congratulations to Xu, it's not unexpected since for the last few rounds she's been the only top-10 female rated player - but at least she played like one (unlike Koneru, Lahno, etc.).

chessgames.com: Congratulations to Yuhua Xu, the 2006 Women's World Chess Champion, and also to her worthy competitor, Vice-Champion Alisa Galliamova.

Thanks to everybody for coming by and participating.

Mar-25-06  walker: <van Gogh>...Do you know had the real vG played chess
Mar-25-06  cade: Vice Champion?! Surely you jest <cg.com> there is no such thing!
Mar-25-06  unsound: <percyblakeny> Good point--nice one.
Mar-25-06  germanic: hey dude, you must be gettin a little grey on your hairs huh? gettin a bit sensitive? relax, this is our generation now and yours was way past! who says that you can be my teacher in religion class right now huh? u wanna be sensitive? sure i wont stop u dude.. u can close all your windows and cry all you want! when were u born? 5000 bc?
Mar-25-06  doremi: Congrats to Xu, thanks to cg, and see you at the next congregation of chess junkies!
Mar-25-06  beachbum: <chessgames> ICC has Xu's last move as ...Re5 instead of ...Ke5, which makes more sense.
Mar-25-06  gulliver: < popski: Congratulations Xu, new WC! > I am joining Popski in the congratulations. I think Xu showed some kind of buddhist attitude, not letting anything disturb her plans and there was alot of tranquility in her chess power.

< Lighten up, jeez. > This is a place for everyone to voice his thoughts. I do'nt think I said anything bad. This is me and this comment of yours to "Lighten up, Jeez" is unpleasant.

  chessgames.com: <beachbum> Thanks beachbum.

<vice-champion> That's a real FIDE term.

Mar-25-06  Gregor Samsa Mendel: Congratulations are in order, but the time control sucks. "World Championship" caliber play is impossible under such conditions, IMHO.
Mar-25-06  cade: Really? That implies that if Xu relinquished her title or unfortunately passed away the title would automatically go to Gallimova. Is this true? It's an odd system for sure if it is.
Mar-25-06  polgy: xu desrerve the title , but i hope FIDE change format for the next time

chessgames.com: Don't leave, we have a special treat coming right up.
Mar-25-06  Ulhumbrus: <chessgames.com: Don't leave, we have a special treat coming right up.> In how many minutes?
Mar-25-06  gulliver: < Octavia > You might be right. I will take your advice into consideration.

But I have not lost hope on <germanic> and < Capablacafan> . I did not mean to attack you guys. Anyway I am not always cool , chilled out and I have feelings. I get hurt from comments by people when they are painful but its all right. I prefer getting hurt than being drugged or cool. Cool is not feeling anything. Also when somebody in my presence acts violently or speaks so , I believe showing that his words shocked me, because if I do not do so I am contributing to his thinking that he is allright to speak that way and that this is the norm.

Mar-25-06  N. Passant: could we call this opening the "quizmo-indian defense"?
Mar-26-06  melianis: Congratulations to Xu! Bold game from both sides! In my book this is 1 classified as a QID (up to 4th moves) and then classified as a Nimzo (up to 7th moves), but there's no mention this kind of queen exchange line. Is this unique?

An Englishman: Good Evening: I have to admit that I'm skeptical of the quality of Black's pawn sacrifice (during the game, I also thought that Xu's 19th & 20th moves frittered away much of her early advantage). However, it only needs to work once, and that it did. Congratulations, Xu!

Galliamova had a great position out of the opening, and after a series of passive moves she relinquished the initiative to Yuhua, who seized her opportunity in great style. Galliamova lost the first game by overpressing, and thiat seemed to affect her in this game, as she played too passively in the middlegame where more activity was needed.

Well played Yahua, and congratulations on becoming the women’s world champion!!
