Jan-21-07  suenteus po 147: <chessgames.com> Thanks for the second broadcast!
Jan-21-07  chessic eric: <suentes> seconded!
Jan-21-07  Marmot PFL: Looks good for Karjakin, mobile center pawns and c3 should fall
Jan-21-07  chessic eric: 45...Bh5 has threats
Jan-21-07  chessic eric: of course Navara goes the other way :-(

But seriously, why not 45...Bh5? If the knight moves then Rd1#. And there are other nasties in there as well.

Jan-21-07  mstover: But at c3 the knight covers d1
Jan-21-07  chessic eric: well, i guess if 45...Bh5 46.Nxc3 then mate on d1 is prevented for the moment. But if 46.Nxc3,Rxd3.
Jan-21-07  Marmot PFL: Bh5 what's wrong with g4? seems white is just winning
Jan-21-07  chessic eric: 46...c2 threatens mate as well i guess, but to sac the bishop?
Jan-21-07  chessic eric: <Marmot> my goodness, yes. I need to stop and think.
Jan-21-07  chessic eric: 49.Ke3 to make sure the knight isn't pinnable with ...Rd2
Jan-21-07  chessic eric: or block with a back rank threat...
Jan-21-07  Marmot PFL: Black wins the knight, but the passed center pawns look much stronger.
Jan-21-07  chessic eric: i thought 49...Rd2 might still have been worth a try.
Jan-21-07  Marmot PFL: Threatens both d6 and e7.
Jan-21-07  Marmot PFL: Black can't take twice on c6 cause of mate, and Kf8 runs into Rf4+ and Rf7
Jan-21-07  suenteus po 147: Great play by Krajakin at the end. I'm 1/7 in predictions, and 0/7 in chessbucks.
Jan-21-07  Marmot PFL: Thanks for both games, lots of chess today.

Jan-21-07  albertfrank: I think this is the best game today!
Jan-21-07  acirce: How on earth did Navara manage to <lose> this game? Poor David. What stopped him from 32..Qxc2 (or 31..Qxc2) and if 33.Bb1 Qd2 34.Qh4 Qh6 (for example)? Was it terrible time trouble by then? But even after the time control it should be he who has all the chances despite 40..Bc6?!. Tragic.
Jan-21-07  Bob726: How do Navara lose after nc4, it looks like black should win easily but navara found a way to screw it up
Jan-21-07  crwynn: Amazing. But I would say it was more the *worst* game of today, saving possibly Topalov-Anand. Or even Shirov-Tiviakov...another fizzled win, but at least that was only a draw
Jan-26-07  Mameluk: One Czech witness of the game in Wijk explained how the 41...b4?? happened. Karjakin was in deep time trouble already since Nc4, but Navara´s play then was shaky and slow. After 40. Rb1 had Karjakin 5 seconds left, while Navara after his weak 40...Bc6? 12 seconds. And suddenly Karjakin blitzed his 41st move. Navara completely confused if he has made 40 blitzed his move too, b4 was probably his intention when played Bc6-->b5.

No interesting explanation of his Rad1 against Shirov at the moment:)

Jul-12-18  Caissa04: 51.d5 is a killer (seals the deal).
