Aug-06-07 | | micartouse: This is a pretty awesome Legal Trap. You can almost hear the white king screaming for reinforcements. |
Aug-06-07 | | dbquintillion: In other news, I'm pretty sure this is NOT Bird's Opening. |
Aug-06-07 | | beenthere240: this is the game that was reviewed in last weeks Aug 4-5 New York Sun. At move 18 black misses a sequence leading to a forced mate. You can forgive him though -- what a game to have played. |
Aug-06-07
 | | keypusher: thanks for the quick upload, cg.com! |
Aug-07-07 | | Themofro: Awesome attack by black. |
Aug-07-07
 | | An Englishman: Good Evening: An inspired pun for an inspired game. The "best" pun I would have seen would have been "M.Ahn, What A Ruckus!" |
Aug-07-07
 | | sleepyirv: Crazy game, it appears White's king tries to take on Black by himself. |
Aug-07-07 | | syracrophy: One of the funniest king hunts I had ever seen! |
Aug-07-07 | | horncabbage: Keep Ahn T. Ruckin. |
Aug-07-07
 | | FSR: Yowza! What is the forced mating sequence at move 18, beenthere240? |
Aug-07-07
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: The forced mating sequence is 18...Rde8+! 19.Kxd6 Rd8+ 20.Kxe5 Rxd5+ 21.Ke4 g5! and either ...Re8# or ...Rf4# next move or 20.Ke6 Rxd5 and there's no defense against 21...Rf6+ 22.Ke7 Rd7+ 23.Ke8 Rf8# I think the reason some games are erroneously marked as Bird's Opening is that the example game in the PGN Upload Utility is a Bird. Sometimes the uploader has to write the gamescore manually, and of course it saves time to copy some details from the example game. And then he forgets to change the ECO code. |
Aug-07-07 | | Dr. J: <SwitchingQ...> In your line, what's the mate after 18... Rde8+ 19Ne7+ Also does anyone know how the game would have continued after 17Qxg7+ Kxg7, 18 Nd5, or, in the game continuation, 19 g3 (to keep the Black Bishop from h4, instead of Rhf1)? |
Aug-07-07 | | kkshethin: please explain mate |
Aug-07-07 | | twinlark: After 18...Rde8+, it's mate in 6:
19.Kxd6 Rd8+ (if 19.Ne7+ Kh8 20.Kxd6 Rf6+ 21.Kc7 Rxe7+ 22.Kd8 Rd7+ 23.Ke8 Re6+ 24.Kf8 Rf7#) 20.Ke6 Rxd5 21.Bh7+ Kxh7 22.Nc5 Rf6+ 23.Ke7 Bxc5+ 24.Ke8 Rf8# |
Aug-07-07 | | unixfanatic: This is amazing. |
Aug-07-07 | | beenthere240: White deserves a lot a credit. I showed this to a friend and he said he would have played 10. Nxe4 and given up on the pawn. |
Aug-07-07
 | | playground player: Poor Ahn fell for one of the oldest tricks in the book. Wish some of my opponents would. |
Aug-07-07 | | kevin86: One of the wildest king hunts I've ever seen. It reminds me of the game that Falkbeer mated in nine with a similar hunt. By the way-is this the HARRY Potter Variation? |
Aug-07-07 | | pawnofdoom: <kevin86> I dont' know if ur joking or not, but I'm pretty sure it isn't the harry potter variation cuz the first game of this "potter variation" of the scotch game was back in 1992, before harry potter
Smirin vs V Inkiov, 1992 |
Aug-07-07
 | | WannaBe: Not too familiar with the 5. Nb3 variation of the Scotch, I tend to play 5. Be3. The database shows black does pretty well when white plays 5. Nb3. |
Aug-07-07 | | Billy Ray Valentine: Is the pun a Grateful Dead reference? ("Keep on Truckin'" from the song "Truckin'") |
Aug-07-07 | | kevin86: There was a famous Eddie Kendricks song about 35 years ago titled :KEEP ON TRUCKIN'. It became a popular expression during that time. My Harry Potter comment earlier was a joke-I hope I don't develop Hogwarts because of it. lol |
Aug-07-07 | | wanabe2000: Looks like 9.a4 is the culprit leading to an amazing king hunt. |
Aug-07-07
 | | al wazir: <kevin86: There was a famous Eddie Kendricks song about 35 years ago titled :KEEP ON TRUCKIN'> This is one of <CG>'s better puns, but they are still going to pay a heavy price in the hereafter for their worst. The expression originated with cartoonist Robert Crumb in the 1960s Zap Comix. |
Aug-07-07 | | hpavlo: What is the Harry Potter variation? |
