Jul-03-09  blue wave: You know, I liked Kingscrusher's video, but shouldn't it be done after the game? I suppose it won't make any difference, but that's not the point is it?

kingfu: Umansky may do Qc2 against Bxg2 just to cover the King pawn before recapturing the bishop. We could always pull the bishop back to e4 causing further exchanges or interpose with g6. I did NOT offer a draw. I still think we may have something for the endgame with the Queenside pawn majority. Nobody made comment to my questions about using chess software, so I assume it is normal now. Which Chess Software should I get?
Jul-03-09  Boomie: <Long Lines vs Broad Lines>

Although I haven't participated in this game much, I'd like to suggest that the problem with The Team in the last two game is long lines. The trend to long lines began last game and we haven't won since. I can't say that there is a direct connection but to me this is suggestive.

Long lines cannot be verified within the lifetime of the universe. With the forum system, lines were short enough for sliding and we could be sure of the results. Plus the forums generated camaraderie and built cohesiveness. All these long lines on the main page are just a turn off for a lot of players. What can one say about a 30 move sequence? There is no give and take or any semblance of a social interaction.

In our first three games, we analyzed short lines to great breadth and won. I believe this is a more efficient use of our resources. Does anyone else think there might be a connection between the demise of the forum system and the results of these last two games?

The argument has been made that the top CC players have to use use long lines. But that's just one player. A team should operate differently than just one player. I think we are wasting our time with long lines. We should return to the forum system to produce rock solid short lines.

They turn me off, though that might be good for the team. I'd suggest looking over the past few games, seeing long lines suggested, and then checking the actual game continuation. Some of our most prolific posters are also very poor predictors of the game continuation.

<Does anyone else think there might be a connection between the demise of the forum system and the results of these last two games? >

Yes. I realize the immediate response is playing Black is more important, but I think it's more than that. When our opponent has a Rybka and sees those lines, they have almost as much insight into our game plan as reading our kibitzing. I believe there are one or two chances a game to deviate from Rybka in a significant way, and the team must have some platform in place to discover/test/prove that. I understand why people are reluctant to vote for anything other than <RV> generated lines. There's that objective number to look at, neat and tidy, and generated from an error free analysis. How does the average chess player set that aside? The other extreme is the handful of posters who want to deviate from Rybka every other move, some of our stronger players at that. I feel they have cried "Wolf!" so much that they aren't taken seriously. The next game we have White, I don't expect any winning chances-unless the forum system is reinstituted.

Please explain? Thanks.

I agree , I don't understand how anyone can see a 30 ply deep line and get real excited .

for most of us , the beauty of chess lays in its ability to tickle the imagination and inspire us with its complications .

unfortunatley , the very beauty that makes chess so attractive , is under assault by the all seeing quad core and chess engines that keep spitting out 30 ply deep lines and nice neat evaluations at the end.

Who cares about her beauty, or the beauty of short lines for that matter.

kingscrusher: Okay since JessicaFischerQueen has stepped in who I respect a lot as a really cultured Chessgames.com member, I am definitely going to reinstate my public question to kwid.

Question for kwid: I had asked you why you have kept posting nonsense stuff from the start of this game. You and a few of your friends tend to do this in particular - the "Real world team" from the time you met up from the Kasparov vs Rest of world game. You replied something like "To see any suprises before they happen". I wonder if it is simply to cloud this forum with nonsense, for the interests of confidentiality to the opponent and also just to have private decent conversations with your chosen friends by Email or password protected forum, as I know you have done for many previous such games on other sites and ones you have organised yourselves.

In other words kwid, do you actually care about Chessgames.com and other people on the Chessgames.com team or just your chosen group of friends?! Because what percentage kwid of your fictional games have ever come true!?

I myself wasted about two hours at the start period of this game, trying to understand one of your fictional 50 move ahead games, and the assumptions made - which are absolutely huge and unrealistic. To be honest, I am considering a formal complaint against you in particular to Chessgames.com.

Jul-03-09  crazymate: Bxg2 Qc2 Be4 Nxe4
this is drawish +.20.

Qc2 is picked over Kxg2 and you dont get his e pawn.

Jul-03-09  lost in space: Folks,

stop dreaming. The normal result in CC games is a draw....and to play draw 2 times in a row vs. top CC players - both times with black - is more than o.k.

kingscrusher: Yes, for those who haven't read behind the lines, I am a little annoyed at being asked by Kwid if I "had permission" for doing an instructive youtube video based on this game position, which is I thought a public exhibition match, with the benefit of chess education and interest and even entertainment and social interaction for chessgames.com members. Most of the analysis in the video was obtained from using Rybka within the space of 30 minutes.

It seems kwid wants to destroy all other aspects of the game (social, instructive, entertainment, communication), for the sake of having a private converation by Email with his few selected engine-buddies, one of which likes to celebrate matching Rybka to 100th of a pawn evaluation and I doubt has even heard of Philidor or Steinitz.

Jul-03-09  Artar1: In the spirit of posting shorter lines, moving the Black bishop to g6 keeps more pieces on the board alright for a little while longer but at the cost of giving White a kingside initiative.

28...Bg6?! 29.e4 Nf6 30.f4 Nxe4 31.Bxe4 Bxe4 32.Re3 f5 33.Qc4+ Kh8 34.Bd4 Rc8 35.Nxe4 fxe4 36.Rxe4 Qg6 [36...Qxe4? 37.Bxg7+!] 37.Kf2 White is a little better off.

Artar1, she can't explain. It is a dejavu recently happened on the <Wesley So> page and she brought it up for no reasons other than to put oil in a virtual fire.

Sorry, while writing I read <Tabanus> replied. Anyway it should be ignored.

  jessicafischerqueen: <Kingscrusher>

Thank you-

And thank you for your post. I didn't know about that "inside info scandal" at all but I can't say I'm surprised.

Very well, and forcefully said, by you. I'm in complete agreement with your feelings.

But look a few posts above-

The <Najdorf> is busted!!

Will wonders never cease.

Ok I'm out. This is my last post ever on a <CG.com> Centaur thread.

Carry on all. Enjoy "learning" how to play chess by voting for Rybka moves.

I don't have any problems with the video as long as you <stop analysing at the current position>. Chessgames.com has blocked GM Umansky from all related kibitzing pages. Now in your video you give GM Umansky all our plans in the current position!

Again, please stop analysing at the current position and then i think your video is as good as all the other videos i am enjoying a lot! ;-)

Tabanus: Funny how these talkative quasi intellectuals always pop up at the end of our games. They should work harder.

:o)

Jul-03-09  Artar1: Here are two noteworthy quotes made by the social gadfly, <jessicafischerqueen>, on <Domdaniel>'s forum:

<(And worse- it's not even *real* analysis- because none of these people undersands> [Sic] <the "why" or "wherefore" of ANY OF THESE LINES).>

<I GO BY INSTINCT BABY.>

No doubt.
