Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-24-09  Ezzy: Game 4 was the least exciting of the match so far from a spectators point of view. The good news is that it didn't cause any problems for Nigel with the black pieces. The game never gave any side a possibilty of an advantage and the game was always fairly equal. No progress could be made by either player at the end of the game, and so a draw was agreed. The game seemed quite easy to play for both sides because they had plenty of time left on their clocks up to the 40 move time control.

So it's still level with 2 to play.

I was going to say that Nigel needs to take advantage of the white pieces tomorrow to make a push for victory, but the white pieces haven't proved much of an advantage in this match so far.

Sep-25-09  Hesam7: Khalifman in Opening for White according to Anand (vol. 2) has the following on the line that was played in this game:

<10. ... Nxb3 11. Nxb3 Be7 12. Nfd4 Nxd4 13. cxd4 O-O 14. Be3 and White's position is strategically better, thanks to his control over the important c5-square and the backward c7-pawn>

Sep-25-09  Hesam7: After 13. ... a5 Rybka comes up with 14. Qd3. The point is that White has two threats: Qxb5 and Qg3. Black has to castle immediately to defend against the latter: 14. ... O-O (an example: 14. ... c6? 15. Qg3, now Black can not castle because of Bh6 so 15. ... Kf8 is forced and after Rybka's 16. a4 White should be better) 15. Qxb5:

I am not sure Black has any compensation for the pawn.

Apr-05-11  Nilsson: answer to Hesam7: 13...a5 14.Qd3 Qd7
15.Qg3 a4 16.Nc5 (16.Qxg7?! 0-0-0 black is better.) 16...Bxc5 17.dxc5 0-0 18.Bh6 f6 19.c6 Qe7 and black is ok.( I think) /JN
Aug-02-11  Nilsson: After 13...a5 I now have two games in Correspondence chess, against Michael Rümmele GER and Bolivar Gonzalez BRA in Olympiad 19 Qualification group II.
Rümmele played 14.Bd2 and Gonzalez 14.Qc2 In the game Rümmele - Nilsson we are at move 28, and in the game Gonzalez - Nilsson I just played 14...Qd7 I have found a game with 15.Bd2 Safarli - Sokolov 2010 Chigorin mem. 1-0 (56) I will continue to report later on, if anyone is interested /JN
