The competition was continued on Friday...>

The first draw of the tourney took place by mutual consent in the game between Messrs. Esling and Hookham. The number of moves was 47 and the time 6 hours and 10 minutes, Mr. Esling taking 3 hours and 10 minutes and Mr. Hookham 3 hours. The game was hard fought, and was a brilliant contest, and it is considered to be the soundest game of the tourney.>
