Phony Benoni: We have a few of Barkuloo's losses in this tournament, wherein he seems to spend most of his time in zugzwang. It's good to see him cut loose, though Erickson does not appear to a strong a player.

24.Bd4 and 25.Rbf1 are mistakes, though Barkuloo doesn't spot the weakness of the latter immediately. 26.Kh1 is probably a bit better, but after 26...Rfg5 the pressure on g2 and the long diagonal will be troublesome.

Phony Benoni: I was thinking more along the lines of something like "Dare D B-Arkuloo", but that's too contrived.

FSR: 18.f4 shouldn't lose, but opening up the long diagonal to Black's unopposed light squared bishop like that is asking for trouble. Stockfish 17 gives 18.b3 Bb7 19.f3 as +1. White's a pawn up for very little. After 18.f4? Bb7 White's advantage plummets to +0.1.

Potentially good game, if White had played better.

I LOVE this comment. I often tell students that the most important rule in chess is that pawns don't go backwards. The difference between White's playing f3 and f4 is immense.
