History
C. H. Erickson has been proclaimed the champion chess player at the Y.M.C.A. He has defeated all players in a series of matched games, usually winning easily. While Mr. Erickson is not inclined to boast, he says he is ready at any time to defend the title given him, and will meet all comers at the Y.M.C.A. any evening convenient. He has been a member of the Minneapolis Chess and Checker club and is enthusiastic over the game. He suggests that the chess fans take in the games that are played at the Y.M.C.A. each evening. (1)

Among the outstanding players of the Regina club are C. H. Erickson, formerly of Minneapolis, one of the ranking players of the western states. (2)

Those interested in chess will be given an opportunity on Saturday to watch the play between Walter Holowach, champion of Alberta, and C. H. Erickson, ex-champion of Saskatchewan, in their initial game of a three-win series for a challenge cup. (3)

C. H. Erickson has been awarded the 1944 city championship of the Edmonton Chess club. He is a strong player, and an unqualified (sic!) enthusiast of the game. As far back as 1926 he won the championship of the Regina chess club, and succeeded in winning the top place for the two following years. (4)

The provincial chess championship was won yesterday for the fifth year in succession by Walter Holowach of 10803-108 street Edmonton. Edmonton players swept the first four places. The winners were: 1. Walter Holowach, 2. J. A. Ronean, 3. C. H. Erickson, 4. F. R. Burfield and in fifth place L. Barrs of Calgary. (5)

Deaths: Erickson — On August 2nd, aged 79 years, Carl Herman Erickson of Government House, Edmonton, Alberta. (6)

Phony Benoni: A man of mystery. "American Chess Bulletin", September/October 1915, p.171 describes him s being from Minneapolis and long regarded as one of the stronger members of the club there, but that's about it.

  Tabanus: <PB> I tried but...

Let's say his name was Carl H, and I would still have problem finding him. There were several Carl Erickson's in Minneapolis.

Phony Benoni: <Tabanus> Yes, it just seems too common a name. You can't win them all, but your efforts have really been outstanding.
