Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-30-23  agb2002: The rook on f7 lacks mobility. This suggests 26.Ne5 dxe5 (26... Re7 27.Ng6+ wins an exchange) 27.fxe5 with the double threat exf6 and e6. However, I can't find a clear winning path after 27... Ng8 28.e6 Re7 29.exd7 Rxd7.
Aug-30-23  King.Arthur.Brazil: I felt a little lost about what to do here. After think a while, I imagined something not convincing like: 26. Ne5 dxe5 27. fxe5 Ng8... W lost a piece and have 2♙ to pressure ♗ position. A) 28. d6 Ne6 29. Nd5 Qa7 30. Rc1 Rxc1+ 31. Qxc1 g6 32. Rc2 Kg7 33. Nc7. ♗ is confined with a lost ♘ at g8, is this enough to win? B) 28. d6 Ne6 29. Bd5 g6 30. Bxe6 Bxe6 31. Nd5 Qb7 32. Nc7 Rfxc7 33. dxc7 Qxc7... (34. Qd6+ Qxd6 35. exd6, it is not too good). C) 28. e6 Bxe6 29. dxe6 Re7 30. Qf4 Nh6 (Nxe6? 31. Qxf5 wins) I didn't see a clear winner line too. D) B refused: 26... Re7 27. Nxd7+ Rxd7 what else? Or 27. Nc6 Rxe2 28. Qxe2 Re8... I really didn't find a best continuation. Hard today.
Aug-30-23  King.Arthur.Brazil: Serious?, 27. any Nxd5?? is a big mistake... then, it is not W to win, it is B to lose. That's why I suppose B would play 27... Ng8.

<abg2002> B can recover the quality: <26... Re7 27. Ng6+ hxg6 28. Rxe7> Ne4 29. Nxe4 Kxe7 30. Nc5+ Kd8 31. Ne6+ Nxe6 32. dxe6 Be8 33. e7+ Kd7 34. Qe2. Otherwise: 29. Bxe4 Kxe7 30. Bxf5+ Kd8 31. Bxd7 Kxd7 32. Qe2 Re8 33. Qg4+ Kd8 34. Rxe8+ Nxe8 35. Qxg6... <W> has a strong position but not a clear victory

Aug-30-23  agb2002: <King.Arthur.Brazil: ...

<abg2002> B can recover the quality: <26... Re7 27. Ng6+ hxg6 28. Rxe7> Ne4 ...

29. Bxe4 Kxe7 30. Bxf5+ Kd8>

31.Qe2, instead of Bxd7, is winning.

Aug-30-23  King.Arthur.Brazil: <agb2002> Yes, You're right, B position is hopeless since all tactics favors W. E.g. 31. Qe2 Ne6?! 32. dxe6 gxf5 33. exd7 Kxd7 34. Nd5 Qd8 35. Qe6+ Kc6 36. Ne7+ Kb7 37. Nxc8 Qxc8 38. Qxd, and B lose his clothes too... lgs.
Aug-31-23  Brenin: 26 Ne5 dxe5 (26 ... Re7 27 Ng6+ hxg6 28 Rxe7) 27 fxe5 seems clear, but then 27 ... Rd8 prevents 28 e6 (answered by Bxe6). If 28 d6 then 28 ... Ne4 saves Black, e.g. 29 Bxe4 fxe4 30 dxc7 Qxc7 31 Nxe4 Bg4, or 29 Nxe4 fxe4 30 Bxe4 Ne6 Rc8, each giving Black a playable position.
Aug-31-23  mel gibson: I had no idea.
Even Stockfish was constantly seeing different lines.

Stockfish 16 says:

26. g4

(26. g4 (g2-g4 Nc7xd5 Nc3xd5 Qb6xc6 Kh1-h2 f5xg4 h3xg4 Nf6xg4+ Kh2-g2 Ng4-e5 f4xe5 d6xe5 Bf3-h5 g7-g6 Bh5-f3 Kf8-g7 Re2xe5 Qc6-c2 Qd2xc2 Rc8xc2+ Kg2-g3 Bd7-c6 Re1-e3 Kg7-h6 Bf3-e4 Rc2-c1 Nd5-c3 ) +2.30/48 413)

score for White +2.30 depth 48.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Humbling reminder of my weakness in tactics--badly flubbed both of today's puzzles. Sigh. Is it Monday yet?
