Annie K.: Not really. :) Black didn't actually have an attack, he didn't really have *anything* since he played the weak 16...f5, throwing away any chance of challenging my center (as the much stronger 16...f6 would have done).

With that move, I could immediately stop worrying about defense, and concentrate on an attack that I had the material to ensure would eventually break through.

Adam is only 11 y/o though, so I think it speaks very well of him that his only mistake was a non-obvious positional one.

The boy was quite good at spotting tactical threats - such as his playing 26...Rh7 to prevent a possible 27.Bd7, attacking his central pawn chain from behind. He's not bad at all, just needs a little more positional understanding, which some more experience will take care of. :)

Jun-27-13  e4Newman: must be kidding because black has absolutely nothing
Nov-18-13  PaulLovric: great game
Nov-29-14  tranquilsimplicity: Excellent mating net!#

Domdaniel: Beating up on the French *and* an 11-year-old at the same time? Oh, Cruella!

Nice game, though. Ideally Black should try to avoid opening the b-file when castled queenside. Especially when he has little or no kingside counterplay.

Oct-28-16  schnarre: ...A fine French-crushing Annie!

Richard Taylor: Yes, f6 is thematically better in most cases. At move 16 he needs (or needed to then) to free his position if possible to get the B going and so on. But a good attack all the same with the vicious 33. Rb7 !
Sep-28-18  Parachessus: Interesting. My Stockfish app thinks that best play for both sides goes: 23.a4 Qc6 24.Qb3 Qd7 25.a5 Rc7 26.a6 Rf8 27.Qa3 Rg8 28.Bb5 Qf7 29. axb7 Rxb7 30. Qa6, etc. Using the a-pawn as a battering ram.
