<<<<INTERCOLONIAL CHESS MATCH.>BOARD No. 5.>
NOTES.>
3.Bd3
A novelty, and one that deserves consideration; it has the merit of throwing the Adelaide player on his own resources, and also of leading to a much livelier game than the stereotyped move of P takes P.
6.O-O
The correct play.
7...Bd7
It is evident that Kt takes P loses a piece.
8...Nge7
Badly played; B to Q Kt 5 was the proper move.
11.Rc1
Kt to Q R 4 would also have been good; all Whites forces are now well disposed for action, while Black has scarcely a piece that can be moved with advantage.
12...Qxb2
Very injudicious; time in the present state of affairs is of more value than a pawn.
13.Bd6
A good move, threatening to win the Q by R to Q Kt sq.
18.Rc5
Well played, winning the K P by force, after this move Black's game is quite hopeless.
21.Qa2
The best move on the board.
24...h6
Very obliging.
And Mr. Crane announced mate in two moves.>
