plang: 76 Bd5+ looks awfully strong
Sep-25-12  PinnedPiece: Lenier is not going to get a zugzwang victory out of this, I don't think.
Sep-25-12  whiteshark: rook trade-off and 73.f5! should fix it
Sep-25-12  talisman: draw now.

Eggman: I don't think White can zugzwang Black because after for example 80.Bh7 Black can probably play 80...d5!
Sep-25-12  whiteshark: I don't see how Naka ever gets his ♗ out.
Sep-25-12  PinnedPiece: Oh my.

Was Leinier intimidated? Failure of nerve? Seems he had two trapped black bishops. And lots of room to maneuver. But what do I know....Is there going to be a broadcast post mortem somewhere on this game?

Sep-25-12  whiteshark: uhhh, wait a moment...
Sep-25-12  talisman: liked it....."fischer" fight to the kings!
Sep-25-12  whiteshark: 62 empty squares nao
Sep-25-12  lost in space: aha, they recognized it. draw
Sep-25-12  Shams: I hope they don't switch to Anand-Aronian, it's a Berlin ending and by far the least interesting of the three Bilbao games.

chessgames.com: Thanks to everybody for watching today's live broadcast. But don't touch that dial--in just a few minutes we're going to switch to Sao Paulo and join one of the games there, already in progress.

  Eggman: <<But don't touch that dial>>

Would people under 30 understand this phrase??

Sep-25-12  Alesavio: 69.Bxg6+ wins outright...it's seems
Sep-25-12  Jambow: <eggman> Not likely but I remember it all too well. ;o]
Sep-25-12  hellopolgar: these long games are good for character building. i really like the way Nakamura has been playing these days, he is improving very fast.
Sep-25-12  rapidcitychess: "But Dad, why can't I just offer a draw??"

"It builds character, son!"

Sep-25-12  twinlark: Seems like Dominguez was overawed by Nakamura. He seemed to have missed a long string of winning chances. Certainly Bxg6+ would have won on at least two occasions.

I hope Dominguez learns to convert his advantages against 2700 players. Seems like sometimes he can't believe he plays in such exalted company.

HeMateMe: Geez, it was quite awhile before Naka got that Bishop extricated from a2. Maybe the game was drawn (or even lost) for him, at the moment he played B-a2.
Sep-25-12  Capacorn: 90...Ke5. lol

OBIT: <HeMateMe> Possibly 38...Ba2 in itself wasn't throwing away winning chances, but it's hard to believe 41...b3 didn't create problems for himself. This is one of those positional mistakes that requires considerable talent to make. An 1800 player wouldn't dream of trapping his own bishop in this way, but Nakamura, who at times can be too creative for his own good, studies the position and starts to think the idea may work.

<Capacorn> Someone really needs to fix that glitch where the arbiter moves the kings to the middle of the board to signify the result, and the board scanner registers this as a move.

Sep-25-12  wordfunph: where is mate <perfidious>?

91.Kc3 and white is better.

Sep-26-12  Capacorn: <OBIT: Someone really needs to fix that glitch where the arbiter moves the kings to the middle of the board to signify the result, and the board scanner registers this as a move.>

I figured it must've been some sort of glitch, but the thought of Nakamura moving his king in that position literally made me laugh out loud. lol

Sep-26-12  andrewjsacks: I like 91.Kc3, gaining the opposition.
