Aug-09-18  Mendrys: Thanks for the puzzle CG. There's a certain layer of mystery now. I can go with it.
Aug-09-18  AugCos: Two stars and half for a trivial problem.
I am surprised.
Aug-09-18  sotto voce meo: I am too old (88) to go easily with change. I am also too old to solve most of the positions shown. However, when I get a Thurs. answer straight off, I suspect that all is not well. I look forward to the old regime and thank and applaud those responsible.

ajk68: The ease of the puzzle made me look for what I must be missing.
Aug-09-18  Whitehat1963: Thursday???
Aug-09-18  malt: Queen sac Mxxxxy,
Thursday.

Dionysius1: Heh <diagonally>. What's the value of a doom-sayer comment like that - do you think Daniel Freeman's relatives and colleagues need more pressure?!
Aug-09-18  et1: Queen sac as in any Monday. Thank you.
Aug-09-18  Ratt Boy: <nalinw:...Now the Game of the Day doesn't seem to exist.>

I used the Search function to find it.

Aug-09-18  Oxspawn: I have been away and had no idea what was happening with puzzles this week until I saw the explanation today. Our entertainment comes second to paying respects to the founder, relatives and friends. In any case, it is inspired to randomise the puzzles. It would also be good not to know whether a position is supposed to be hard or easy. That way you play the position, not the label.
Aug-09-18  4tmac: first time (mon) 1 sec .... this time 5 or 10 sec (sigh) Go to Ratt Boy's link for your Thursday puzzle 30. ??? White play & win
Aug-09-18  zb2cr: Remembered from prior appearance. Mate in two with 32. Qh8+, Bxh8; 33. Rxh8#.
Aug-09-18  popnstart: first thursday puzzle solved by me ever...in 10 seconds...gonna wake the wifey to tell her!

Yorkshire Fog: <Ratt Boy: I used the Search function to find it.> Thanks for that. I tried to search but got a server overload message. It is not yet in the Game of the Day Archive.
Aug-09-18  AlicesKnight: Another fairly recent recycle, and from an 'easier' day. Qh8+ and mate next move.
Aug-09-18  Nezhmetdinov: <The site is running on auto pilot due to owner Daniel Freeman's death.>

Oh no! Thanks for all the pleasure you have given me and others over the years through your stewardship of this site Mr Freeman. Truly sorry to hear of this.

Aug-09-18  messachess: Very, very easy.
Aug-09-18  Coriolis: For the most part I have found the comments from users of this website very useful, an essential component of the site. I would like to think that the users will keep the ship afloat until a new captain arrives. On the other hand, if a user makes objectionable comments one can block them. Cheerio <Big Pawn>
Aug-09-18  anandrulez: Sorry to hear about Freeman. Don't know how many such unusual mates exist.
Aug-09-18  mjmorri: <Oxspawn: ...play the position, not the label.> Well said. Such bad habits might creep into our real Monday games where we spend all of our time looking for a Queen sacrifice on move 1.
Aug-09-18  eblunt: Given that white is already a Rook up, doesn't almost any sensible move win ?

for example 32 Nxg7 and black can't retake, and has lost so much material its resign time.

moronovich: Reminds me of a puzzle <Sneaky-RIP> once gave : Mate in one ! Off course it sounds triviel, but it was rather charming IMHO,so if anyone could find this puzzle it could be a fitting tribute to our dear Daniel Freeman.
