Apr-28-14 | | mrbasso: <DcGentle>and Karjakin understood that it is an easy draw for him... |
Apr-28-14 | | Pedro Fernandez: What <Ulhumbrus> said, after an eventual exchange of bishops the white king is blocked i.e. it can't enter to the enemy field. |
Apr-28-14 | | DcGentle: White's queenside pawns are on light squares, and potentially his kingside pawns can do the same. |
Apr-28-14 | | Memethecat: for a minute there I thought Carlsens king dash was gonna produce some edge but I can't see anything other than equality. |
Apr-28-14 | | Ulhumbrus: 27...Kd7 brings the king towards c6 |
Apr-28-14 | | cro777: This is a dead draw, but they need to manage it. |
Apr-28-14
 | | offramp: <mrbasso: <DcGentle>and Karjakin understood that it is an easy draw for him...> Like Squatter understood the Ant:
<CLIVE:
But what was odd was that the ant understood Squatter.
DEREK:
Yes.
CLIVE:
The ant realised he was up against somebody as good as -, as good as he was.
DEREK:
There was some sort of understanding between ... they knew they were ...
CLIVE:
Equals ...
DEREK:
... Equals, yes.
CLIVE:
...In their struggle, yes.
DEREK:
Yes.
CLIVE:
So Squatter, with a tremendous display of courage, put up his hands and surrendered.> |
Apr-28-14 | | Sokrates: Agree with <Ulhumbrus> and others - Carlsen's king can't access the black fortress. He now plays for b4, but that would only give an optical advantage IMO. Even with a white pawn position e5-f5-g4-h3 I can't see how black should lose. |
Apr-28-14 | | Memethecat: <Ulhumbrus: 27...Kd7 brings the king towards c6> not g4? |
Apr-28-14
 | | keypusher: 29....b5, I certainly didn't expect that! I thought 29....a5 was fine. |
Apr-28-14
 | | keypusher: Don't play for the loss, Magnus... |
Apr-28-14 | | Ulhumbrus: With White's b4 and e5 pawns on black squares Black may become able to play for zugzwang by means of moves such as ..Bg3 |
Apr-28-14 | | Sokrates: Indeed, things have taken an unexpected turn. Karjakin shows great agility. Suddenly Carlsens Pe5 has become a problem. |
Apr-28-14
 | | chancho: And now a visual display of losing as shown by Hikaru Nakamura: http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/3... |
Apr-28-14 | | mrbasso: Black could only play for a win with his King on d5 and that won't happen. |
Apr-28-14
 | | keypusher: ...and draw. |
Apr-28-14 | | Ulhumbrus: The move 30 b4 not only places but also fixes a second white pawn on a black square. This means either that Carlsen has gone too far in trying to avoid a draw or else that Carlsen - like Karpov - knows exactly how far he can go in the ending without inviting defeat. Probably the latter. |
Apr-28-14 | | Memethecat: <chancho> looks like someone stuck him while sewing another logo to his shirt. ;)).. |
Apr-28-14 | | Sokrates: Okay then - draw. Carlsen should not be sad about that. He was on the brink of taking a risk too many. |
Apr-28-14
 | | chancho: Two rounds left to play for Magnus.
Radjabov and Caruana.
Carlsen may get 1½ out of those two games. |
Apr-28-14 | | DcGentle: Well, in hindsight White should have not permitted 13... Qd3. Maybe an oversight. |
Apr-28-14
 | | chancho: <Memethecat> :-)) |
Apr-28-14 | | Marmot PFL: Today was the biggest hurdle. Maybe Karjakin will draw them all now. |
Apr-28-14 | | Tiggler: <Sokrates: Okay then - draw. Carlsen should not be sad about that. He was on the brink of taking a risk too many> Carlsen says he was trying to play for a win with no risk, but obviously there was no risk for him ... |
Apr-28-14 | | Marmot PFL: "I am not playing for a draw, draws just happen with me." |
