al wazir: What on Earth did white have in mind when he played 33. Rxf7 ? It offers neither a defense nor a serious counterthreat.

Maybe it was just a way of throwing in the towel.

He seems to be dead lost even before this move anyway.

<Maybe it was just a way of throwing in the towel.>

I think so.

eternaloptimist: This is an interesting game & IM Garbett did a good job of attacking Foo. I liked this cartoon & used to watch it a lot when I was a kid/teenager. 1 thing that stood out about it is at the end of the cartoons, Hong Kong Phooey would think that he solved the crimes & he would get credit for doing that. Although it was actually the cat who solved them & he would sigh after HKP got the credit for solving them. Also I used to b a Christian foreign missionary in China & I spent ~3/4 of the time over there in Hong Kong. I really enjoyed it over there!

There are nasty discovered checks by moving the Re3. Obviously the white king must run away, right, and so comes 32.Kh2??, Rd2 and it is over.

The move to play was 32.Qb2, and now there is no way for Black to keep up the attack. On 32.-,Rc3, to avoid the exchange of queens, White now plays 33.Kh2. No black rook can come to 2nd row and White is safe.

May-20-25  Thegamelover: < al wazir: What on Earth did white have in mind when he played 33. Rxf7 ? > I think it was a desperate move hoping for a silly mistake from the opponent. he knew he was losing anyway, so, why not!
