Aug-31-15  kellmano: <chessdgc2: White has just played 1. Rae1...Here, Black can opt for 3 pawns for a piece starting with 1...Bxf3 2. Bxf3 Nxd4 3. cxd4 Qxd4+ Do u think Anand is looking at this?>

Surely not. I remember some super GM saying that the evaluation of a piece = 3 pawns is inaccurate in the middlegame and it's more like 4. In an open position like this (with pawns that aren't advanced or co-ordinated), you're just going to get mated soon I think with all those open files. I imagine by the time I've written this your move may be on the board and Anand will play a brilliancy.

Aug-31-15  MarkFinan: I've just joined the game. What's wrong with e5 here?
Aug-31-15  kellmano: <finan> Not much I'd think but at least ....Qe6 may make it more inconvenient for White to regain the pawn.
Aug-31-15  MindCtrol9: I guess White must capture on c4 recupering the pawn and planning to attack the f7 pawn.I thought about 16.e5 or Nd2(more Nd2)
Aug-31-15  kellmano: The chess trash talk was quite funny, but I wonder what word they bleeped out for Grischuk's comment
Aug-31-15  chessdgc2: MarkFinan=Hi Mark, good question. I've been looking at e5 for quite awhile...sometimes the best way to answer a question like "What's wrong...?", we must first look at "what's right with it". I don't see any immediate gains for White and the "hole" at d5 is not appealing although White does have the LSB. It seems e5 would be better without Black's LSB on, but it may be well worth taking the risk here if there is one!
Aug-31-15  haydn20: 17..b5! and there's a lot of slippery tactics, not necessarily in White's favor.

Aug-31-15  kellmano: <Absentee: I propose we switch to Carlsen-Nakamura. It might be historic>

Doesn't look that way right now

Aug-31-15  Ulhumbrus: One way for White to go wrong is 18 Qd3 Bxf3 19 Rxf3 Ne5
Aug-31-15  Ulhumbrus: 18 e5 offers an interesting pawn sacrifice eg 18...bxc4 19 exd6 cxd6 20 Nd2 Na5 21 Bd5
Aug-31-15  Absentee: <kellmano: <Absentee: I propose we switch to Carlsen-Nakamura. It might be historic>

Carlsen is about to cost me some chess doubloons for the second time in a row.

Aug-31-15  haydn20: aronian decides Black's counterplay isn't worth the risk, and trades down to a draw. Toldja!
Aug-31-15  kellmano: This looks dead now. I question Aronian's strategy. Playing an out of form Anand with White, knowing that Magnus is playing his best client.

Who does he have last round?

Aug-31-15  kellmano: <absentee> What you bet on something other than a Carlsen win? Sir, I salute your indefatigability.
Aug-31-15  MarkFinan: Chessdg2.. Good points. Kellmano, I think you're either a school teacher or a policeman, only they ever call people by their second name. Anyway all today's games look similar, the Carlsen Nakamura game looks interesting.
Aug-31-15  haydn20: Aronian has black vs Topa. Magnus has black vs Anand.
Aug-31-15  Pedro Fernandez: I don't know what Anand was thinking.
Aug-31-15  kellmano: <finan> A schoolteacher I am indeed. Quite a common thing for Englishfolk to call each other by surnames though I think. Many people call me Kelly.
Aug-31-15  Absentee: Yesterday I bet on Carlsen-Draw-Draw, and he lost. Today I have him drawing but it looks like Nakamura is going down again.
Aug-31-15  kellmano: Thanks <haydn>. In that case, if he is a half-point behind, I think it's probably about 50-50. Guess Grischuk and Giri need may need to be considered too.
Aug-31-15  kellmano: They can't agree a draw before move 30, nor is there an obvious repetition.
Aug-31-15  patfoley: Anand's N is awkwardly placed. Rb1 is going to worry it.
Aug-31-15  cormier: Anan should win ...
Aug-31-15  Marmot PFL: Even if Aronian draws this I don't know that anyone else will gain any ground, unless Nakamura plays two straight bad endings. Carlsen also played badly in the ending yesterday.
