Jun-02-16  coolconundrum: I definitely would have been calculating the hell out of Qf8 goin for a K hunt.
Jun-02-16  Imran Iskandar: I think the final position was winning for White but it would be quite a task finding some of the subtle moves.
Jun-02-16  Imran Iskandar: Not to say that it was impossible. Caruana had around 23 minutes for the last 5 moves before the time control.
Jun-02-16  patfoley: 38 Rd8 looks like a serious possibility.
Jun-02-16  4tmac: 32 ?? .... W play & wins
Jun-03-16  ndg2: Black is pretty much lost, if white plays on and pulls the black king into the open (after 38..Re5, which is more or less forced) with 39.Qf7.

As plan B white has atleast perpetual, so Caru could have dared to give it a try.

Jun-03-16  tea4twonty: 32. Rc8+ Kh7 33. Qd3+ Re4 34. Qf1 Re5 35. Qf7 Qa4 36. Kh2 h5 37. b4

perfidious: In the 1986 Queen City Open, I won a crucial last-round game from Boris Belopolsky in which he played 16.Nd4. This did not seem the strongest at the time, but I do not recall my answer to this.
