Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-17-05  soberknight: I recently met Boris Belopolsky, who lives in my hometown of Newton, MA. He was FIDE rated 2270 as of 2004, and has a dozen games on the chessbase.com online database. The peak of his career was in the mid-1980s. He told me that he played Pal Benko and scored two draws and a win. He also said he sacrificed his queen to net a pawn against Bent Larsen, who "jumped up in his chair, but then he started to play like a tiger." I hope to play Mr. Belopolsky within the next month.
Jul-18-05  Resignation Trap: I was fascinated by a win of Belopolsky's over Boris M Kogan at a Cardinal Open many years ago and I had it published in a magazine. I'll have to track it down and upload it here.
Jul-19-05  Resignation Trap: In this game, BOTH players promote two Pawns to Queens:

In this whacky, wild & wooly game, White's 27.b3 turns the encounter into a free-for-all.

perfidious: <soberknight....The peak of (Belopolsky's) career was in the mid-1980s.>

So it was; he was typically ~2350 USCF at the time and we had some hard fights, some of which I will submit if they ever turn up; the only game near to hand at the moment is a win for me, in which Boris did not play well at all, so a game I do not consider worthy of sending on.
