Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-09-18  Delboy: Nailbiting stuff! Would 24. Qxc5 or 25. Qc6 have turned the result?
Jan-09-18  ChessHigherCat: My skolded Valentine.

It took me a while to even see the mating threat in the final position: 28. g4 Qf4 29. Kh1 Qg3 with the unstoppable threat of Qh3#.

No, but 25.Qc6 seems to have been worth a try.

24.Qxc5 loses immediately after 24....hxg3. 25.Kxg3 Qg5+ is a forced mate and 25.Rh1 Rxh1 26.Kxh1 Kf7! is quite hopeless.

25.Qc6 loses after 25....h3+!. 26.Kh1 Qc2 27.Nd2! Qxd2 28.Rg1 (forced) Bxg1 29.Rxg1 h2! 30.Ra1 Qxb2 is about -8. But that's not all simple and obvious to a human.
