Jan-22-17 | | whiteshark: Insecure ♔ positions, with 3 long range pieces each and mobile connected pawns, combined with time trouble: drama ahead!?!? |
Jan-22-17 | | Marmot PFL: some king of attack on white's king is the only chance for black |
Jan-22-17
 | | An Englishman: Good Morning: Eljanov doesn't seem to care about 40...e4. Says a lot about the quality of his Queen side pawns. |
Jan-22-17 | | morfishine: <40...e4> |
Jan-22-17 | | BOSTER: It is not easy to stop white pawns without counter game. |

Jan-22-17 | | Marmot PFL: 42 Qf3 is forced then Qe5+ with chances for perpetual check. |
Jan-22-17 | | morfishine: White wins of course, 3-pawns beats a rook |
Jan-22-17 | | Octavia: looks like repetition |
Jan-22-17 | | BOSTER: C7 is the trying. |
Jan-22-17 | | ajile: 43.Qg3 maybe? |
Jan-22-17
 | | An Englishman: Good Morning: Looking at 43.Qg3,Qc1 and 43.c7,Qc1. Had thought Black had zero chances, but 39...Rd8 might prove a clever swindle, luring White into thinking he could ignore the menaced Bishop only to run into 40...e4 and 41...f3. Even if White still has a won game, Black showed considerable resourcefulness in finding the variation. |
Jan-22-17 | | ajile: Looks like Black is one tempo short to play 43..Rd2. |
Jan-22-17
 | | keypusher: Drawn. Amazing game. |
Jan-22-17 | | morfishine: Black's game is falling apart |
Jan-22-17
 | | An Englishman: Good Morning: 39...Rd8--early candidate for Swindle of the Year? |
Jan-22-17
 | | tamar: 39...f3 was similar idea, reserving the rook move after 40 Bxf3 Rd8 and the position is wild but possibly drawable for Black because 41 Qf1 e4 is coming. 39...Rd8 gave the choice to White, and he missed the point. |

Jan-22-17 | | JimNorCal: Huh. GM Eljanov had a terrific start in this tourney. Then headwinds slowed him. A loss, then a draw or two. This was his chance to regenerate some forward momentum. Too bad!
I believe he is still on track to gain some ELO points at least. |
Jan-22-17
 | | offramp: BOLLOCKS!!! |
Jan-22-17 | | JimNorCal: Bollocks? Where?
One of them, or a whole herd? |
Feb-03-17 | | JimNorCal: Indeed, GM Eljanov finished with a respectable finish, tied for 6th place at +1.
Four draws and a loss in the final rounds. A pity! This could have been a breakout tourney for him. Nothing to be ashamed of! He proved he can play with the big boys. |
Feb-03-17 | | JimNorCal: re: "bollocks"
This is not a word in American English. So a reader not familiar with Brit popular culture would assume a typo from "bullocks".Interestingly, AmEng has the word "bollix" though rarely used. It means messed up, as in "gov't instituted a new policy and it caused everything to get all bollixed up." |
Feb-03-17
 | | WannaBe: I always think of Sandra 'Bollocks'. And I prefer FUBAR over bollix =)) |
Feb-03-17 | | JimNorCal: You're a true American, WannaBe! :) |
