MissScarlett: Wasn't it <Tartakower> who said, <The puns are all there, waiting to be made.>?

MissScarlett: Caparros (1994, p.165) most likely used the same source as I did (Times-Democrat, 1911.01.28), but he gives the most unlikely <39.exf6>.

OhioChessFan: No doubt another Brit-centric pun nobody else will get... looking it up now. Okay, no idea.

MissScarlett: I think this is the time and place for <McGuire>'s full identity to be revealed.

beatgiant: "McGuire of the Mounted"? That's a real oldie, even to me.

perfidious: Never heard of that silent film.

<Times-Democrat> as a reference certainly takes this back a while; that paper merged with the <Picayune> in 1914.

Nov-12-24  Gottschalk: <MissScarlett> Simultaneous defeats have become much rarer in the maturity of the Cuban genius. From 30 to 49 years old, Capablanca was almost unbeatable – a TOP 5 World Champion!. In my opinion, second only to Kasparov.

Honza Cervenka: Capa's main mistake was the decision to trade the Queens with transition to 2R+N vs 2R+B ending, where Bishop was better. After that he could still hold the game after 21.Nxe4, and later he missed some better moves as well, for eample, 27.Rg4+ Kh7 28.Nf4 Rd6 29.Nd5, but it was already a difficult task, especially in a simul.

Could be McGuire, Marion Herbert, New Orleans physician ( https://archive.org/stream/louisian... ).

http://www.edochess.ca/players/p104... has Dr. M.H. McGuire.
