  OhioChessFan: "Forcen the Issue"
Feb-21-19  Count Wedgemore: You're starting to become my favourite punster, <OCF>! Also, nice to finally see a GOTD that shows just what a terrible opening the Benoni is :)
Feb-21-19  andrewjsacks: The Benoni a terrible opening? Um. Not in the hands of Fischer, Tal, or some others.
Feb-21-19  Count Wedgemore: <andrewjsacks> At his best, Fischer could have played any opening (except for the Damiano Defense, perhaps) with good results, or so it seems :)
Feb-21-19  jith1207: Even as he lost this game in last round, Manuel Pena edged out Daniel Forcen and Alexander Kaspi on tie-break after all scored 7.5/9 to win Andorra open.
Feb-21-19  jith1207: That must have been indifferent end for both players after their contrasting result of this game and their tournament placing.
Feb-21-19  OrangeTulip: The loss of black has not much to do with the opening but a lot with the difference in strength (elo)

An Englishman: Good Evening: Wait a minute--did Black have no choice but to play 10...Bf8? That move looks horrible. Is 11.Nc4 such a threat?

offramp: The Andorra Open is the highest rated tournament in Europe.
Feb-21-19  Count Wedgemore: <offramp> And Wijk aan Zee is the lowest.
Feb-21-19  Ironmanth: Hmmm...there are some maneuvers here, both for White and Black, that escape me. Not enthused about how Black overall handled this Benoni. Thanks, chessgames.

Breunor: An Englishman, you are right, the computer says 10 .. Bf8 is weak.

After Bf8:

1) +1.28 (19 ply) 11.O-O b6 12.Bg5 h6 13.Bh4 a6 14.a4 Nbd7 15.f4 Qc7 16.Qc2 Bg7 17.Nc4 Nh7 18.Bf2 Bd4 19.Qd3 Bxf2+ 20.Rxf2 Bb7 21.h3 Nhf6

Better is Na6 or Qe7:

1) +0.57 (21 ply) 10...Na6 11.O-O Nc7 12.Re1 Qe7 13.Bg3 Nd7 14.Nc4 Ne5 15.Ne3 Nd7 16.a4 Bd4 17.Bf1 b6 18.a5 b5 19.Nxb5 Nxb5 20.Bxb5 Qxe4 21.Nc4 Qxe1+ 22.Qxe1 Rxe1+ 23.Rxe1
