Nov-16-18 | | JimNorCal: The minors will come fwd and be exchanged, the rooks will deploy to the open file and be exchanged: draw. Match tactically good for Fabi: easily holds as black Match strategic for MC: one step closer to holding |
Nov-16-18 | | sudoplatov: The Pawn structure is symmetrical, so how does either side make progress. Neither side can afford to let the other side capture the e-file so Rooks probably get exchanged off. Now (move 15), both sides seem to have the same amount of development and space. I'm guessing a sixth draw. |
Nov-16-18 | | Atking: If White could exchange the DSB then he will have an edge. |
Nov-16-18 | | Atking: 18.b3 for 19.a4 and 20.a5 or 19.Ba3 |
Nov-16-18 | | Atking: Or 18.Bg5 and on 18...h6 19.Bh4 with 20.Bg3 |
Nov-16-18
 | | Mateo: The rule is draw tomorrow and draw yesterday — and always draw today. |
Nov-16-18 | | nok: are we having fun yet? |
Nov-16-18 | | ChessHigherCat: Aren't there copycat variations (of the English, for example), where white can force the opponent to make losing moves by imitating him symmetrically? I'm not sure what they are, but I think I've heard it is possible. |
Nov-16-18 | | Ulhumbrus: <Atking: If White could exchange the DSB then he will have an edge.> One idea is 18 Ne3 followed by Nf5 if Black allows it |
Nov-16-18 | | Pedro Fernandez: Good morning. BTW, 15...Bd7 followed by 16...0-0-0 was not crazy (IMO), but Caruana does not take such a risk, I guess. |
Nov-16-18
 | | Joshka: One more draw and they are half way home!!!!! DRAW, DRAW< DRAW!!! |
Nov-16-18
 | | Mateo: <Maurice Ashley says he'll bet $1,000 right now even money that this game ends in a draw. Anyone want to fade him?> |
Nov-16-18 | | cocker: 18 … Na4 has nuisance value. |
Nov-16-18
 | | Mateo: <Says Carlsen’s father Henrik on Norwegian TV: “Magnus feels that Caruana is playing in a way that makes him comfortable. He is in no hurry to score yet.”> |
Nov-16-18
 | | An Englishman: Good Morning: Maybe White can play Ne3 and do something with the f5 square...no, just fooling myself. They can agree to the draw with a clear conscience. |
Nov-16-18 | | jphamlore: Caruana hasn't lost a Queenless middlegame in years. It's bizarre to emulate a draw vs So versus trying the approach either Anand or Karjakin took to the Petroff. |
Nov-16-18
 | | Penguincw: This is Carlsen's first of 2 straight whites. Big boost in his favour. But if he doesn't win either game, all of a sudden it's a best of 5 match, with Caruana getting 3 whites. |
Nov-16-18 | | Ulhumbrus: One point of 18 Kf2 is that whereas White's bishop on d3 attacks the h7 pawn and so ties the rook on h8 to the defence of the h7 pawn and so prevents the rook on h8 from contesting the e file Black's bishop on d6 can't play ...Bxh2 in reply to Re1 as then g3 traps it. This suggests 18...f6 19 Re1 Kf7. One alternative to this is 19...0-0-0 20 Re1 Bd7 but then White's king has a lead in development in the endgame |
Nov-16-18 | | beenthere240: No agree draw till 30, so there's more dancing ahead. |
Nov-16-18 | | nok: Grischuk: "I just don't want to analyse or even discuss this position." |
Nov-16-18 | | ChessHigherCat: I wonder why Kf2 was better than just castling? Maybe white wants to play Bg5-h4-g3 and open up the h-file? |
Nov-16-18 | | goldenbear: I like the plan Kd7-Nc8-Ne7-Bf5 in some order. |
Nov-16-18
 | | plang: Queens are bad - they have no place in chess anyway |
Nov-16-18 | | vasja: White needs to exchange coveted c1 B, probably via b3. |
Nov-16-18
 | | Mateo: <nok: Grischuk: "I just don't want to analyse or even discuss this position."> I like the way Carlsen thought for 16 minutes before he played 15.Bd3... |
