Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-24-19  Marmot PFL: Why doesn't Fabi win anymore?
Mar-24-19  Messiah: <Marmot PFL> He is a mess. He wasn't even able to beat properly that obnoxious patzer in the WCC.
Mar-24-19  Albanius: Fabi missed a win with 47 Qf3! threatening Qxf7+ mating, instead of 47 Kh2? Qf6!

If 47 ..f5 or ..f6, 48 Qh5! Qd5+ 49 Kh2 followed by Qg6+

If 47 ..Qf8 or ..Qe8, 48 Qb7! Nd5 49 Ra8 wins the Q

So the only defense to immediate loss is 47 ..Qd5, when 48 Rxf7 Qxf3+ 49 Rxf3 is a won endgame, R+3 vs N+3.

Mar-24-19  Marmot PFL: Still white was winning until the uncharacteristic 71 Qa8? allowing perpetual check.
Mar-25-19  Howard: Is the win after 47.Qf3! really that simple ?
Mar-29-19  whiteshark: <Howard: Is the win after 47.Qf3! really that simple ?> It seems so.

Mar-31-19  parmetd: My engines say this position is still a draw up until 70... Nc1?? After Nc1 there are numerous wins including 71. Qc6 71. Qf3 71. Rf7 and I think they all transpose but the engine can see all the way to mate with 71. Re7 ie A) 71... Qc3+ 72. Kg4 73. Kh4 Qc4+ 74. Qe4+ ...

B) 71... Qf6 72. Qe4+ Ka1 73. Rb7 B1) 73... Qf1+ 74. Kh4 Qf2+ 75. Kg5 Qg3+ 76. Kf6 Qf2+ 77. Ke7 Qc5+ 78. Kd7 Qf8 79. Rxb2 (Kxb2 Qe5+ and h8=Q) Qg7+ 80. Ke6!! An almost study like win... B2) the story of 73... Qh6+ goes down a very similar path. 74. Kg4 Qf6 75. Kh5 Qc3 76. Kh4 Qd2 77. Kg4 Qd1+ 78. Qf3 Qd4+ 79. Kg5 Qg1+ 80. Kh6 Qh2+ 81. Kg7 Qg1+ 82. Kf7 Qd4 83. Qa3+ Kb1 84. Qxb2+ Qxb2 85. Rxb2+ Kxb2 86. h8=Q+ Almost an impossible like calculation for a human unless he is already familiar with the key winning strokes.

An almost study like calculation with a beautiful King walk. Had Caruana won this certainly would have to be in his best games of all time list.
