May-02-22 | | Brenin: Traditional Monday Q sac: 25 Qxh7+ Kxh7 26 Rh3 mate. |
May-02-22 | | Brenin: After 16 ... Na6 (surely Nd7 is better?) and 18 ... Qxc2 (yes, abandon the K and win that vital c-pawn), Black deserved the hiding he received. The position after 21 Rxg6 is entertaining. |
May-02-22 | | areknames: <After 16 ... Na6 (surely Nd7 is better?> For sure, with the idea of playing ...f6 asap and Black is still in the game. <and 18 ... Qxc2 (yes, abandon the K and win that vital c-pawn)> Yes, awful move but it's probably already too late. |

May-02-22 | | mel gibson: The easiest puzzle ever. LOL |
May-02-22 | | drollere: i had 25. Qxh7+ Kxh7, 26. Rh3# |

 | | An Englishman: Good Evening: Last week, 5/7, flubbed both weekend puzzles, a nice, normal, reassuring, calm week. Hoping for more of the same this week. |
May-02-22 | | Gregor Samsa Mendel: One of the few things about Mondays I look forward to. |
May-02-22 | | geeker: It's Monday...First candidate move: how can I put the Queen en prise and win? Mirabile dictu, 25. Qh7+! |
May-02-22 | | agb2002: White has the queen for a rook and a knight.
The black king cannot move to g6, g7 nor g8. Hence, 25.Qxh7+ Kxh7 26.Rh3#. |
May-02-22 | | get Reti: I got the puzzle within the first 1/3 of a second, before my eyes could see all the pieces on the board. |
May-02-22 | | Immortal Gambit: Nice configuration on move 21. |
May-02-22 | | AlicesKnight: Found the mate in 2. Wierd how constrained Black is for the last few moves. |
May-02-22 | | cocker: Now that's what I call easy. |
May-02-22 | | Ariogermano: Very very quickly and easy |
May-02-22 | | TheaN: Yeah this was what I would call an instant spot. Even before I processed the entire position <25.Qxh7> was obvious. <25....Kxh7 26.Rh3#> took perhaps a second longer. |
May-02-22 | | TheaN: Weird game, actually. White's winning very early, 10....Bd7, 11.Qg3 throws it, but 11....Kh8? gives it back again. Then White plays kind of accurately till the exchange of moves 16.Rf3? Na6? where both players seem to not care enough about their development. 16.Ba3 retains the advantage, 16....Nd7 holds, if Black was confident enough to follow with 17....f6. Black's lost at this point, but of course removing the only piece from defense, 18....Qxc2, speeds it up greatly. One of those games that shows evaluation differences can be volatile. |

 | | chrisowen: Roadhouse puzzle x |
May-02-22 | | johnnydeep: Briefly considered a few NON-queen sac moves before seeing that winning line. Still easy though! |
May-02-22 | | King.Arthur.Brazil: This requires a minimum chess mind: ♕xh7+ and mate next. I wondered if Black played the same line, but with a different move for the ♘: 16...♘d7 17. ♗g5 ♕g6 18. ♖g3 ♕xc2 19. ♗f6 ♖g8 20. ♕h6 ♕g6 21. ♖xg6 fxg6 22. ♖f1 gxf6 23. exf6 ♖af8 24. ♕g5 ♖f7 25. ♖f3 ♖gf8 26. ♕h4 ♘xf6... it seems that Black would survive. <ChrisOwen> Congratulations! Finally anyone can read your kibitz. The King (me, who else?) asks that you keep this way. |

May-02-22 | | Halldor: Monday at its best! Chessgames.com going family-friendly again?! |
May-02-22 | | Hodor: Monday eazy. Drop it for Tuezday. |
May-02-22 | | whiteshark: 25.Qxh7+ Kxh7 26.Rh3#, and that's it. |
May-03-22 | | Besrqe: Black was doing fine until he sidetracked his development, if not outright panicked, with the idea of trading off the WKB; which began a 3move series of blunders 10...Qd7, 11...Kh8, 12...Bf5 that got him into serious trouble. Calmly continuing development and putting the Knight on d7 instead of the Queen kept Black's position together. Ironically, as the game shows, it's the dark squares White gets a vice grip on and is a good illustration of how easy it is to whip up an attack on the Kside with an e5 spearhead. As others pointed out, 16...Na6?? was la la land and Black's chance to finally get the Knight to d7 and challenge the spearhead in connection with ...f6 before getting steam rolled. |
