Apr-01-19 | | Count Wedgemore: Black may soon lose the d-pawn as well, after some checks back and forth by White's queen, leading to Qxd6. |
Apr-01-19
 | | perfidious: <Messiah>, whatever is with the fixation on crying? I have always been led to believe messiahs were above mere human emotions. |
Apr-01-19 | | BOSTER: Black can sacr. the knight and draw. |
Apr-01-19 | | chessdgc2: The outcome of this game hinges on which player is willing to "risk" it...otherwise, both can force a draw. |
Apr-01-19 | | ChessHigherCat: White can obviously at least get a perpetual here with checks on the 6th rank but I think he'll win. <perfidious>: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfG... |
Apr-01-19 | | Count Wedgemore: <perfidious> And I'm sure as a good Russian, Grischuk hides well such outward display of emotions. And if he struggles to do that, there's always vodka. |
Apr-01-19 | | Count Wedgemore: I disagree with this talk about Black's drawing chances. White's pawns look unstoppable. |

 | | perfidious: <CW>, no doubt you are right about that--I am still waiting to meet Grischuk heads up for the bracelet in pot limit Omaha at the WSOP this summer. Let's see how well he conceals his emotions when I lay the lash to him and take home the gold. (laughs) |
Apr-01-19 | | whiteshark: Still some stalemate ideas/traps in the air with ...Kh8 and ...Qf7+ |
Apr-01-19
 | | perfidious: Black now has nothing for it but to be taken on an excursion to valuetown: population, him. |
Apr-01-19 | | BOSTER: 53...Nd3 was a big mlstake. |
Apr-01-19
 | | Diademas: < BOSTER: 53...Nd3 was a big mlstake.> According to the machine it is, but it also tells us that whites reply 54.Qh6+ is a mistake of equal magnitude. I guess the only lesson that is to be learnt is that endgames are notorious difficult. |
Apr-01-19 | | BOSTER: < Diademas> I agree. |
Apr-01-19 | | Ulhumbrus: An alternative to the Benoni is the Benko gambit by 4...b5 or 5...b5. One example of a Black win was the game Taimanov vs Bronstein, 1953 |
Apr-01-19 | | BOSTER: Even after 40...Rxc2 41.Qxc2 Qxd5+ 42. Kh3 black could draw. |
Apr-01-19 | | Inocencio: Ding Liren will be the next World Champion. He is a combination of Karpov and Petrosian. |
Apr-01-19 | | Nonnus: you mean he is bisexual? |
Apr-02-19 | | chessfanprag: Please help... I can not see why black did not play (after 39.Bc2) 39. - Kc5 |
Apr-02-19
 | | tpstar: After 39. Bc2 Nc5 look at 40. Qc8+:
 click for larger viewHere 40 ... Bf8?? 41. Bc3+, or 40 ... Qf8?? 41. Qxf8+ Bxf8 42. Bc3+, or 40 ... Kh7 41. Bxf5+. So 40 ... Qg8 41. Qxf5 with a powerful battery against h7. |
Apr-02-19 | | chessfanprag: tpstar... thank you, I was thinking about 40...Qg8 41.QxQ BxQ and did not see 42.Bc3+ |
Apr-02-19
 | | tpstar: <chessfanprag> To be clear, 40 ... Qf8?? 41. Qxf8+ Bxf8 42. Bc3+ wins the exchange after 42 ... Bg7 43. Bxb2 Bxb2: click for larger viewWhite is two Pawns up and the Pf5 is an easy target. I would play 44. Nd3 trading down; 44 ... Nxd3 45. Bxd3 Bc3 46. Bxf5 Bxa5 47. Bc8, or 44 ... Bd4 45. Nxc5 Bxc5/dxc5 46. Bxf5 with an easy win. |

Apr-06-19
 | | HeMateMe: Pretty bold of ding to give up the exchange on that open board. I wonder what the 'bots say about all of his knight moves at the start of the game? |
Apr-09-19 | | 64Go: When replaying this game I got the feeling Ding Liren really is from another planet. The deepness of his understanding of the position reminded me of Ivanchuck. Also I really liked how he out the bishop on d2 as a blockade on the second rank. And giving up his bishoppair in the end. Very cool and inspiring stuff. Ding Liren most likely to be the next world champion? |
Jul-10-19 | | Dave12: The level of the positional-tactical play from Ding in this game is just insane. |
