Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-27-20  Atking: 14.g4! looks very interesting.
Jun-28-20  MordimerChess: Yeah, 14. g4! is really strong. White's gonna get all the initiative and dangerous attack. Black pieces are gonna be completely defensive stance. Rook on f8? Knight on e8? Bishop and other rook also didn't move yet.

But Nepo's move 20...Bb1 is such a beauty! Definitely move of the day... and one of the best in tournament.

Jun-28-20  Ulhumbrus: 7 Na3 answers eccentricity with eccentricity by placing a N on the rim whereupon Black repeats eccentricity by placing a N on the rim as well by 7...Na5.

Shall White play another eccentricity or try something conventional?

One example of the former is 8 Nh3 or 8 g4.

One example of the latter is 8 Nc4 forking the N and B and on 8..Nxc5 9 Bxc4 the two eccentric knights have cancelled each other out but Black's bishop remains eccentric.

One example of a justification for an eccentric looking choice is, to borrow the words of Alekhine, that eccentric looking play is a rational exploitation of eccentric looking play on the part of the opponent where conventional play will allow the opponent to profit from the liberties he has taken. I am quoting Alekhine's words from his game Alekhine vs Rubinstein, 1921

JointheArmy: Pun candidate for the game "Nepotism".
Jun-29-20  savage sanctuary: Man, Black's 20th move is flashier than my entire Reykjavik chessmen from House of Staunton
Jun-29-20  MordimerChess: <Ulhumbrus> But this was main line, not eccentricity :D It's fight for c4 square where the knight could land and attack the bishop on d6 :D

perfidious: 'Eccentricity' to <uluseless> is anything which falls outside his Reinfeldian banalities and 1300-level understanding, try as he might to tell all and sundry that even world champions cannot play.
May-03-21  dashjon: doing the Nepomniachtchi: it's the latest dancing craze!
