saffuna: Are 10. a4 and 11. b5 theory at all?

Looks to me as if Firouzja totally abandons the center to black and puts all his bets on the a- and b-pawns advancing.

26...Ra6 looks strange.

Fascinating game.

Nah, 10. a4 bxc5 11. b5 g5 12. Bb2 Bd6 13. h3 Rg8 14. Nbd2 Qc7 15. Qb1 h5 16. Bxf6 Nxf6 17. b6 Qb7 and White is in trouble.

Nov-23-20  Pulo y Gata: An attacking masterpiece
Nov-23-20  fisayo123: Firouzja had already played this against Caruana in the Norway chess tiebreaks. Sort of like a reverse Noteboom .

perfidious: <saffuna>, here is the game mentioned by <fisayo123>: A Firouzja vs Caruana, 2020.

I played the Noteboom in correspondence a few times in the late 1990s; interesting stuff, with theory stretching beyond the twentieth move in the main lines. Lost a game to a Swiss player ca 2550 in one of those variations, which I would submit if it were anywhere near to hand--believe he improved on published theory.

Check It Out: Great game. Ali turned the tables on the kingside attack.
Jul-25-23  skisuitof12: White's a and b pawns charging up the board has similarities to the final game in the women's world Championship match of July 2023.
