Phony Benoni: The game appears in Horowitz's 'Readers' Games" feature in Chess Review, March 1944, p. 24. The only game information given is the players' names and that it was played in the Canadian Championship.

It appears that LeDain had not played in the Canadian Championship since Montreal 1940. The result is mentioned in the "Montreal Gazette", Octoober 7, 1940, as having been played in round 2 on the previous day. However, no further description of the game is given, so I can't be certain this was that game.

If anybody can provide better information, I will gratefully sit corrected. (I don't stand for much of anything these days/)

And, in all events, I hope you enjoyed the game. Probably spectacular rather than sound, but what with the engines proving that no Human game is sound we gotta take what we can get.

  GrahamClayton: 13... c5+ 14. Kxd5 Qc6+ 15. Kc4 Be6+ 16. Kd3 and LeDain has the pleasant choice of winning Therien's queen with 16...Rd8+ or 16...Nf2+.
