The Montreal Gazette newspaper reported in the June 4th chess column of 1977 that he recently passed away at age 71.

May-01-09  znprdx: I have a fond recollection of an anecdotal incident shown to us by Jules Therien after a weekend Swiss tournament outside Montreal around 1974-5,Beloeil I think it was:

Well it looks like perpetual check in the making

3.Bc5!! This move (to the initial Bishop square) was made announcing "CHECK" for the 3rd time...to which Black replied : "that's NOT check" and moved into Mate ..Kh6?? 4.Bf8# :)

Unfortunately I can't recall absolutely for certain if this was one of his games - but it is makes for a great Urban Legand - he was a wiley fellow to be sure.
