Dec-25-24  BxChess: A double pun on both the player's name and the tournement. Thats a rarity! Incidently, Noel, Leon, and Elon, are anagrams. As for the game, it is amusing how the King stepped out of his castle, and found he couldn't get back, eventually ending up on h4.

An Englishman: Good Evening: High quality pun, as <BxChess> noted. As for the game, 13...g5 puzzles me. Did Black mean to play 13...h5, but touched the wrong pawn?

FSR: Too bad Studer didn't win the tournament. Then he'd be the First Noel.

perfidious: This coming weekend, the annual Pere Noel tournament will be held in Montreal.
Dec-25-24  Cassandro: Now that's a high quality pun right there.
Dec-25-24  Cecco: <BxChess: As for the game, it is amusing how the King stepped out of his castle, and found he couldn't get back, eventually ending up on h4.> Actually, after 23. Ne7+ (weaker than Rxf4), the best move would have been making the king to get back to g7. White has a winning position, but there is still a fight. I hope the pun is not the only reason to promote this to GOTD.
Dec-25-24  Teyss: “The King is a fighting piece. Use it!” (Daniel Borner)

Joyeux Noël à tout le monde.

Dec-25-24  BxChess: <Cecco:> Afte3 23. Ne7+ Kg7, White has 24. Qc3+, after which Black must lose the queen on h8.
