Jul-04-22 | | ILikeKeres: Rapport goes for broke with 20.Nxg5.
Rapport may have seen something about 24.Nxe5, but one line goes: 24.Nxe5 Nxe5 25. Bxe5 Rxe5 26. Rxe5 Bd6 27. Qg5 is fine for white. 25.f4 is plain awful, and black is able to beat off white's attack a piece up. |

Jul-05-22 | | Ulhumbrus: 5 Bxc6 concedes the bishop pair. After this whereas White has to struggle to find compensation for the bishop pair Black does not need to do anything apart from completing his development whilst answering any threat. If Black can do that White will struggle to draw. Perhaps the computer has found some resources for White that change this picture. That remains to be seen. With 12 Nc4 White has found something: he can deprive Black of his bishop pair. But if that is almost all that White can hope for he can hardly be satisfied with the result of the opening. It is Black who can be satisfied with equality whereas White wil want to play for more. If after 18...h6 White can play 19 g5 all the same, one alternative is 18...Be6 19 g5 f5 If after 19...fxg5 White can play 20 Nxg5 all the same, one alternative is 19...hxg5 20 Nxg5 Is 31..Rf8 necessary? On 31...Nf6 32 Nf7 Qd1+ 33 Kg2 Qe2+ exchanges queens. However the text leads to a win as well. |

 | | fredthebear: Paraphrasing, Cormier says White was slightly better in the opening. Maybe Black should have played 11...Nd7 instead. Ulhumbrus said <With 12 Nc4 White has found something: he can deprive Black of his bishop pair. But if that is almost all that White can hope for he can hardly be satisfied with the result of the opening. It is Black who can be satisfied with equality whereas White wil want to play for more.> Ol' FTB asks "How did Rapport became the world's youngest grandmaster at the age of 13 years 11 months?" Answer: Inflated rating system. If Bobby's sister Joan were playing today, she'd be rated about 2475 or so. That's my way of saying RR is not playing like a GM should. |

 | | fredthebear: Intelligent people know that ol' FTB was speaking sarcastically, an obvious exaggeration. Bobby's sister knew how to play chess (she taught him), but she did not play competitive tournament chess. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joan_... So, alias Z freeloader took out <your latest sock puppet account on <<June 29, 2022>> just so you could follow much of the FIDE Candidates 2022 tournament, eh? Your timing was perfect. But then it turns out that you were so busy insulting other people with your new account that you didn't bother to follow the 14 rounds of tournament play. Fortunately for you, this website preserves the games for replay later at your convenience! Poor Richard finished tied for last in the 2022 Candidates tournament. Look at his shoddy play for yourself all you want sweetheart. Of course, to your untrained eye, it's all wood. Oh one more thing, Z free always cry, if you'd bother to watch the videos on the blue links that I provided just yesterday, you could get some expert analysis move-by-move. That way, you don't have to take my sarcastic word for it. |

 | | Clement Fraud: I always appreciate the analysis of <Ulhumbrus> Most GMs seem to favor 5.Bxc6 ; and, if this is really the best try that White has available, then it casts some doubt on whole system (of 4.d3)!? |
|
Jul-19-22 | | SChesshevsky: <...then it casts some doubt on the whole system of 4. d3?> Well, there's going to be some concession from going anti Berlin d3. But an idea with this is to give black a broken structure with Bxc6 and to then make blacks B's bad as compensation for the lost white B. Also shouldn't underestimate whites Nc4 which stands pretty well placed compared to usually blacks N. Here, Rapport seems to accomplish this. Though seems in kind of a round about way. Then looks like he loses his mind with a very speculative sacrifice. Which probably in no way should be attributed to his opening. Which basically aims to say, "I don't have a lot except a better structure and better placed pieces and no real weaknesses and that's enough." |
