perfidious: A game played with great eclat, in the style of the old masters, and well worthy of being a POTD.

offramp: <perfidious>, Yes, very like Anderssen, and the opening is "King's Knight Opening".

Black gives up the queen, then ....Rxg2+, ....Bf3+ followed by the deadly ....Rh8.

  perfidious: <Sergio X Garcia: 14.Nxe4 ⩲, h-file stays close.>

The snag then is that calamity comes from another quarter: 14....Nxe4 15.Bxe4 Qxe4 16.dxe4 Rxd2 17.Bxd2 Nf3+ followed by ....Nxd2, picking up an exchange and leaving Black a piece to the good.

After 14.Nxe4 Nxe4 white has 15.Qb4! Now any attempt to save the piece by retreat of Knight from e4 runs into quick disaster after 16.Be3, for example 15...Nf6 16.Be3 Qd6 17.Bc5 Qe6 18.Qxb7+ Kd7 19.Qb5+ c6 20.Qa5 Ke8 21.f4 (diagram) and white wins.

After 14.Nxe4 Nxe4 15.Qb4 black has nothing better than 15...Qb6 16.Bxe4 with small advantage of white.

Teyss: Good pun as White fell swiftly in this original opening. Close to A Konstantinopolsky vs I Rudakovsky, 1940 featuring the inventor.

At the end 17.Kxh2 Rh8+ 18.Kg1 Nf3+ 19.Bxf3 Bxf3 and mate on h1 is unavoidable. If White declines the sac 17...Rxg2+ 18.Kxg2 (Kh1 Rh8+) Bf3+ 19.Kg1 Rh8.
