K Any: What the heck is the King doing on b4? Oh.
Jun-30-23  Mayankk: Indeed. White trapped Black Rook on an almost empty 5th rank - 3 squares guarded by White King. two by its pawns, two by its Knight and one occupied by Black pawn.

The planning started with 49 Nd5 and ended with 57 Ne2. Black pieces were immobile and so easier for White to plan. But still quite remarkable.

Aug-16-23  tonsillolith: The situation here after trapping the rook

is very similar to the position after <54. Qb4> in the game Nepomniachtchi vs Mamedyarov, 2016

where the king and queen on <b4> both serve the purpose of guarding the three squares on the rook's rank, and the <f4> pawn plays the same role in each case, but in Nepo's game other considerations preclude the rook from leaving the 5th rank.

Brilliantly executed in both games, though I'm especially impressed with Prag's realization to relocate the king all the way to <b4> and his combined use of the rook, knight, and king, and working in concert to achieve the final goal.

That's some good problem-solving ability.

Nov-12-23  morphynoman2: This kid has something of Capablanca. What a technique in the ending!
