 | | Teyss: Only decisive game of the 29 the Muzychuk sisters played together to date: https://www.chessgames.com/perl/che... Since they had drawn their two classical games, they needed to play two rapid games, this one being the first (and if drawn another two; if drawn two blitzes; if drawn single blitzes until a decisive result was obtained). The following rapid being drawn, Anna proceeded to quarterfinals. If they wanted to avoid a decisive game between them, their only options would have been to forfeit or to keep on playing draws until the exasperated organisers would have expelled them from the tournament. It's good they chose neither. |

Jan-02-24 | | stone free or die: <Teyss> having a vague memory of an older interview where one sister expressed regrets about having to beat her sister I looked up their head-to-head record over on <365chess> https://www.365chess.com/search_res... There are many decisive games predating this one there, the earliest being from <2002 UKR-ch U12 Girls>. . |

 | | Teyss: Hi stone free or die,
Thanks for the link which has 40 games, hence 11 more than CG. I thought CG database was more comprehensive than this. Indeed there are 6 decisive games before this one, of which 5 in Anna's favour and 1 in Mariya's. The last one was in 2015 so apparently they decided to bury the hatchet afterwards. |

 | | perfidious: <Teyss>, in recent weeks, I have transferred 100 or so games from 365chess to CG. In general, their content is reliable, but I do not take it implicitly on trust; there is still a game there which has me facing Igor Ivanov (whom I played twice), yet the game in question is actually the first of four with Alexander Ivanov. |

 | | Teyss: Hi perfidious,
You played Igor Ivanov AND Alexander Ivanov? I don't dare to ask the scores. 0-2 and 0-4? |

Jan-03-24 | | stone free or die: <Teyss> I think <365chess> is perhaps the most thorough and complete fully open and searchable database on the net. I think it's a German site, but I could be wrong. I'd be interested to know a bit more about the people behind it. Working on the Bistro, we often referenced the site for missing <CG> games. Not as reliable as a primary source (e.g. tb), but often more complete than <CG> as <perf> noted. . |

 | | Teyss: Hi stone free or die,
Thanks for the tip. Yes we cannot totally rely on CG which is unfortunate because I really like its user interface. |

 | | perfidious: <Teyss>, I took the collar, as they say in baseball: lost all four to A. Ivanov and both to Igor. In my one classical meeting with Igor Ivanov, at the 1982 Greater Boston Open, it followed Karpov vs Geller, 1981 through Black's fifteenth move. After the game, my opponent said he believed he was on the same path as Karpov, but was not sure. I never managed to find a way to crack White's kingside, and eventually he came up with an idea and took me out. The tournament was mentioned by longtime Boston Globe columnist Harold Dondis, and he noted that I was the only one of Ivanov's opponents to give him any trouble--excluding, of course, the de rigueur quick draw with Dzinzhi, as both finished with 4.5/5. That game was played when Ivanov had just gone through his near-miss at Toluca. |
