fredthebear: Do you suppose Lasker has prepared a series of books "My Great After Blowers"? It seems Kasparov's chess powers have declined faster than some other champions and vice-champions.

MarcusBierce: <fredthebear> Completely different era, and his predecessors didn’t have to throw out all the years of opening theory as Kasparov does in these tournaments.

perfidious: How anyone proclaiming themselves a strong player could come to such a judgment is beyond understanding; Kasparov retired from top-class play eighteen years ago, yet one, ah poster here insists on slagging his play in what, as <Marcus> pointed out, is a completely different format.

Kasparov has long since proven himself one of the all-time greats and no gratuitous swipe at his play will change that ineluctable fact.

Top-level chess requires serious preparation. No player can win on pure talent, even a former champion.

Kasparov was of course strong in all areas, but particularly strong in opening preparation. That strength is taken away in 960.
