Nov-17-23 | | goodevans: This super-sharp opening is well known and usually ends in a quick draw, as in Nepomniachtchi vs Aronian, 2020 and D Anton Guijarro vs V S Gujrathi, 2022. As in those games <10.Qc4> is the normal move but <10.Nd5> is equally good and has been seen before, although never in the top flight. Judging by the speed of the their respective play, 10.Nd5 and the next few moves were all part of Theodorou's prep but Radja from this point was having to work it all out in a minefield. His <10...Re8> (20 minutes) was okay as were his next two moves but <13...Re6?> was where the wheels started to come off. Quite a spectacular implosion after that. |

 | | perfidious: Despite the pedigree of this razor-sharp line, after Radjabov came unstuck, the finish smacked of Morphy v NN. |
|
Nov-17-23 | | fabelhaft: This is Radjabov’s quickest loss in classical, at least in this database. The second shortest was three moves longer, and played 23 years ago. |

 | | pandaTT: What timing some club mates and I just went over some opening principles with some juniors at a new club we are trying to get going. This looks like a great illustrative game of what can happen love the picture of the undeveloped Black Q-side. |

 | | Teyss: Only game in the database with 10.Nd5!? Otherwise White has tried 10.Qc4 (11 games: +3 =7 -1) and 10.Qd4 (1 game, draw). What happened to Radjabov? Clearly not his tournament. Before this he only lost only one game in less than 20 moves: C Yoo vs Radjabov, 2023. I exclude Ivanchuk vs Radjabov, 2008 and Radjabov vs B Savchenko, 2010 because it's not clear why he lost (phone ringing?). If I had been in his place, at the end I would have played until mate: would have been a bonus for Chess fans and would have avoided losing in less than 20 moves, hence being included in a future book "The Most (In)Famous Miniatures". Incredible game especially considering the players and good pun which could also have been "Beware of Orthodox Gifts" because of the opening. |

 | | saffuna: What a position after white's 13th.
Black is up a full rook, but his king is all alone, all his pieces undeveloped on the queenside except for a knight vacationing on h1. Meanwhile white's lesser forces are all lined up and ready to attack. |

Bxh6! <Until this point Theodorou had barely spent any time on his clock.> At the end Howell says, "<White spent only 2 minutes on the entire game>." |

Dec-22-23 | | VerySeriousExpert: As Yury V. Bukayev says, after 10.Nd5?! Re8 11.Nxc7! d6 12.Qc4 d5 Black has some advantage. Yury says, White should play 10.Qc4 Kh7 11.Qe4+ Kg8 12.Qd5+ with a draw or 10.Qd5 with the same. |
