An Englishman: Good Afternoon: An early candidate for Best Draw of the Year. Great players, great effort, great fight--and almost completely equal for almost the entire game. Nonetheless, both can feel pretty good about their chances for the rest of the tournament.
Apr-05-24  fabelhaft: 31. Reg2 was promising.
Apr-05-24  Atking: <fabelhaft: 31. Reg2 was promising> Indeed as 31...NxN?? leads to a mate in 5; 32.Rxg7+ Kf8 33.Rg8+ Kf7 34.Qe8+ Kf6 35.Rf8+ Qf7 36.RxQ# the pressure on g file is for real

offramp: Best game in the round by miles.
Praggers played very well. Could he win?

The Open Spanish, with ...Nxe4, gets a load of play for Black. Amiriight, huh?

Apr-05-24  ultrausurper: Perhaps black could've maintained decent pressure with 29...Qh5 instead of Rxf3, and after 30.Rgg2 Ne7-f5 black seems to have a promising attack.

Stockfish gives a crazy line here: 31.axb5 Nf5 32. Bxa6 Ne3!! 33.a7! Nxg2! 34. a8=Q+ Nf8 (diagram) 35. Rxg2 Rxh2+ 36. Kg1 Rh1+ 37. Kf2 Qh4+ 38.Rg3 Qh2+ and it's a draw by repetition.
