Apr-09-24  BxChess: 19 moves required to reach time control and about 40 minutes on both clocks. If this becomes a scramble I guess Nakamura would have the advantage.

An Englishman: Good Afternoon: Suddenly, White's a-pawn has become weaker than either of Black's Queen side units. However, Black has so many plausible moves, he might get into trouble spending time picking the best.

Korora: Nakamura also has more time on the clock. Firouzja seems more likely to enter Zeitnot first.

Sally Simpson: Yes time is going to a big part in this game and you have to fancy Nakamura of the two to hold their nerve.
Apr-09-24  lentil: Both men have plenty of time!

perfidious: A novel way to arrive at an IQP middlegame.

Sally Simpson: Ali has moved up a gear, playing faster and we have a Black d-pawn protected by a Queen. Tricks?
Apr-09-24  BxChess: Nh4 = hedge-knight

Sally Simpson: He has gone Nh4, I was looking Ng5 hxg5 Bxd4. Ali now down to a minute a move, looks like he has plan. He will make it.
Apr-09-24  BxChess: Now I see the point of 31. Nh4, namely 39. gxf5.

Sally Simpson: Bit of rush towards towards the end but some forced moves helped . Some tricks are on with a d-pawns and e-pawns hanging. Wood will chopped and we will see who has judged it better.

Sally Simpson: I thought the passed d-pawn was going in exchange for the e-pawn probably something wrong with that down the line. Queens are off and so am I.

Korora: Seems Firouzja's still burning through time faster.
Apr-09-24  BxChess: <Korora> Yes. F. is using time and there seems to be quite a bit of play left in this game.

Korora: Looks like it's a question of whose flag falls first, xor of who makes a screwup first.

Korora: A horse and two ♙s for a crow.
Apr-10-24  BxChess: Advanatge Nakamura. 30secs increment seems plenty for him.
Apr-10-24  AdolfoAugusto: Ce fini

Sally Simpson: I'm Back! Nakamura won!
Apr-10-24  BxChess: That was an exciting race toward the end. Firouzja seemed to be winning but Nakamura had it all under control. Thanks for an enjoyable live game.
Apr-10-24  sudoplatov: 62.Kxd3 seems to be the losing move. Rd8, Ra8, and Rf8+ should draw. The Black Knight and Pawn keep White's King out of The Square.

Korora: <sudoplatov> Zeitnot, plain and simple.
Apr-10-24  Voice without Words: Famous youtuber bounce back. Ali's vibration is not looking very good at the moment

Sally Simpson: Watched the vid by Nakamura. (Are all his vid's interrupted so frequently by adverts or do subscribers block them.) I do like the way he dismisses computer evaluations because of some the unhuman OTB positions it looks at.

Ali offered a draw on move 43.
I wonder if Ali fell for the ''I'll show you for refusing a draw - now I'll win it.' routine which might explain some his later apparent mistakes or like me thought, Queens off = draw. (though when I came back to see what had happened I could have lost that for both sides. )

Staying with Lichess for this (and very possibly in the future) all four games with an evo bar which should suffice and alert you to blunders.

You can click on a game to get time taken per move and switch on an engine to check an idea which I did during the Nepo game because I could not see what was wrong with it. When I did the evo bar shot up so fast against my idea it crashed though the top of my monitor, up the wall, through the roof and is on it's way to the moon.

Apr-10-24  goodevans: <sudoplatov: 62.Kxd3 seems to be the losing move...>

It's actually quite simple. Simple enough that I can understand it, though maybe not so simple that you'd see it under time pressure.

The R can't stop the g-pawn since Black can block the g-file with his N. Since the R can't stop the g-pawn the K needs to be ready to go to f3 in the event of ...g3. 62.Kxd3? means he can't do that.

I'm not saying I can work the alternatives out to be a draw. Simply that it's easy to see that 62.Kxd3 loses so try something else.
