Sep-16-24  mcgee: This is...surely not a draw? Black is easily winning at the end. Other sites are showing it as 0-1

tamar: It was originally posted as a draw, but changed to a black win after about 20 seconds.

With the win Erigaisi hits 2791.3. Live ratings had also calculated the draw and had him at 2786 until the correction came through.

perfidious: At first glance, it seemed odd that Erigaisi should offer an exchange of queens, but White has difficulties over his development and can scarcely hold the extra pawn, while his opponent has great activity and the best minor piece on the board.

tamar: I thought offering the queen exchange was odd too, but apparently it is still theory, and Erigaisi had played all his moves instantly.

Terrifying for Sjugirov who was down to 28 minutes.

Erigaisi thought it was equal after the queen exchange, but that his opponent might have thought white was better. He felt playing to win b6 on move 28 was risky, and that he gradually got the advantage.

perfidious: Maybe <fishie> holds the minor piece ending, but even a top 100 player could--as here--find the practical difficulties insuperable.
