 | | TheAlchemist: I bet this guy's name is Jack. |
May-10-05 | | aw1988: I see he has won most of his games. Judging by his name I think most of his opponents fainted because of the horrible smell. |

 | | TheAlchemist: Jack's letter to his boss:
<Dear Boss,
I keep on hearing the police have caught me but they wont fix me just yet. I have laughed when they look so clever and talk about being on the right track. That joke about Leather Apron gave me real fits. I am down on @#$%*s and I shant quit ripping them till I do get buckled. Grand work the last job was. I gave the lady no time to squeal. How can they catch me now. I love my work and want to start again. You will soon hear of me with my funny little games. I saved some of the proper red stuff in a ginger beer bottle over the last job to write with but it went thick like glue and I cant use it. Red ink is fit enough I hope ha. ha. The next job I do I shall clip the ladys ears off and send to the police officers just for jolly wouldn't you. Keep this letter back till I do a bit more work, then give it out straight. My knife's so nice and sharp I want to get to work right away if I get a chance. Good Luck.Yours truly
Jack the Ripper
Dont mind me giving the trade name
PS Wasnt good enough to post this before I got all the red ink off my hands curse it No luck yet. They say I'm a doctor now. ha ha> The spelling errors are said to have been made on purpose. Why, I don't know. |

May-10-05 | | aw1988: I think the above is a worthy candidate for the weirdest post ever on chessgames.com. |
May-10-05 | | Landman: And aw1988's post is a clear favorite for most-spot-on. |
May-10-05 | | fgh: <chessgames.com>, could this guy be the player of the day? He has such a cool name :) |
May-11-05 | | Treadhead57: Are these correspondence games? I didn't know cg.com would add correspondence games to the database. Well done. I'd like to see more of them. Which other players have cc games here? |

 | | TheAlchemist: <aw1988> Thank you :). Actually a friend of mine is a big fan of Jack the Ripper (they share the same first name) and has wrote the above letter in a school essay, would you believe it :) ... I'm just merely passing it by for others to "enjoy" :) |
May-11-05
 | | Benzol: Walter Sickert was one candidate for being the Ripper. |
May-11-05 | | Runemaster: I've always suspected Blackburne. |
May-11-05 | | Runemaster: <TheAlchemist> Just to clarify, that letter is actually one that Jack the Ripper sent to the police, isn't it? |
May-11-05
 | | TheAlchemist: <Runemaster> No, he sent it to his boss, but he did actually write it. Since he went on his "spree" he was absent from work :) (I don't know what he did) |
May-11-05
 | | Benzol: <Runemaster> I believe you're right. |

May-17-05 | | Runemaster: <TheAlchemist> I've only just come back to this page. If Jack the Ripper sent a letter to his boss because he was out on a killing spree, I think the police would have had enough brains to figure out who he was: "That guy in accounts hasn't been around for a while. Maybe he's not really in the Canary Islands." |
May-24-05
 | | TheAlchemist: <Runemaster> Ok, I admit I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think it was more that they couldn't catch him rather than they didn't know who he was. But I'll check that, ok? |
May-26-05 | | Runemaster: <Alchemist> Still today no one knows who Jack the Ripper was -that's the mystery, isn't it? |

 | | TheAlchemist: <runemaster> Here are some interesting facts about Jack the Ripper: http://www.met.police.uk/history/ri...
The letter I posted was sent to "the Central News Agency on 27 September, 1888. They, in turn, forwarded it to the Metropolitan Police on 29 September". It also says that "the amazing fact is that his identity remains unproven today". |

 | | offramp: So who was J T Ripper? I'll say, 'Joseph Barnett'. |

 | | TheAlchemist: About Jack: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_t... List of proposed suspects: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o... My "favorite" would be George Chapman, most evidence does seem to point at him. He murdered three women the police knew of and was a failed doctor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George... |

 | | WannaBe: I always thought 'Ripper' was a term for someone who has gas problems... |
Feb-28-06 | | square dance: <TheAlchemist> the problem with chapman as the ripper is that serial killers dont change their m.o. i used to be a very ametuer ripperologist when i was 18. i never could really settle on one suspect that i liked. i completely believe that the police knew that the ripper was done after his last murder since they mysteriously pulled all of the extra police off the streets afterwards. its just way too coincidental that there was never another ripper murder after this. |

 | | TheAlchemist: <square dance> I guess you're right about the m.o., although, quoting one of the sources above, "it is now accepted that a killer's modus operandi can change, sometimes quite dramatically." Which do you think was his last actual murder? Did he finish with the canonical five? There are several more possible victims listed, although they might be the work of crazy people following Jack's example. Of the main suspects (Druitt, Kosminski, Chapman, Ostrog, Pizer, Tumblety) Chapman still seems the most likely to me. Of the other suspects mentioned later, James Kelly is an interesting case, while the Royal conspiracy theory really seems too sci-fi like. I would really like to hear some of your thoughts, if you don't mind. Thanks! |
Feb-28-06 | | square dance: well, im really rusty on my ripperology, but i believe that he stopped in 1888. i never really thought of druitt as a real suspect. i think he was considered as a suspect because he might have been gay. and gay serial killers dont kill women. <"it is now accepted that a killer's modus operandi can change, sometimes quite dramatically."> i didnt know this. i remember that was one of the strong arguments against chapman; the necessary change of m.o. iirc after tumblety fled to america there were no more ripper murders. and as i previously stated, i believe the police knew who the ripper was and that he wouldnt be committing any more murders in white chapel since they pulled the extra police off of the streets. so, if i recall this correctly, he is an interesting suspect. there was a time where i was pretty convinced that aron kosminski was the ripper, but i think i may have had some facts mixed up that led me to my conclusion. i used to read something called the casebook. here is the link http://www.casebook.org/ if this is a subject that interests you i suggest that you check it out. |
